"Seems to be a lack of media interest in the life sentence given this to Mohaamed Farooq who made two serious attempts to let off bombs at St James Hospital in Leeds and a nearby RAF base. His Hospital bomb had 10kg of explosive packed in a pressure cooker. He was inspired by Islamic ideology and anti West propaganda. Is this type of terrorism becoming normalised, or deliberately down played by the media and politicians ? " Had missed it, good like any terrorist he's behind bars for a long time.. I think with any such things the state will to a point want to in fact need to strike a balance of vigilance about these threats we have in our midst and not over hype them .. Sometimes they get it right and sometimes they don't..

"I must admit this passed me by! I have just read about it, and I can't understand how I missed it. Nathan Newby deserves honouring for the intervention he made that saved so many lives. " Absolutely 💯

Strange there's been so much discussion this week about the drama Adolescence and online 'grooming' yet this has got so little coverage.

There's so much going on in that area with so many different and frankly worrying ideas, I doubt we know or want to know the half of it..

"Find an incident to suit a narrative.. ask a question… watch the reactions…. That’s how this all works… right I did see this pass me on and the news, not the most gruesome thing I have heard court wise this week! Go and look at the sentencing of Nicholas prosper, he got a minimum of 48 years for the murder of his mother, his younger sister and brother… And it could have been a lot lot lot worse… Had has mother not woken up when she did, the plan was to kill 30-40 school children He has been looking online of mass murderers, colombine, andas brevik, sandy hook So what did I learn this week… that evil people are evil people, and any sort of material can potentially trigger anyone! So I hope this thread is closed…… people should be better than cheap points! I say should, but sometimes I truely wonder! " That case got very widespread coverage, the trial of Mohaamed Farooq (who could easily have killed dozens) did not. Its quite legitimate to ask why not.

Are they acceptable to you? To note they look pretty reasonable and not with any hint after an agenda from anyone..

"I think about the narratives that people use to frame a case…. For example it was “sexy” ( and I know it’s the wrong word to use… it’s more the intention of the user) when certain people thought the Southport murderer suited the narrative of an asylum seeker gone bad, not quite as sexy when you found out he wasn’t and had a whole history of mental illness! You can have an honest and Ernest conversation… both these people were influenced by propaganda…. Is terrorist propaganda any better/ worse than being influenced by mass murder agenda? Evil people are evil people Placing it in politics ,and then asking a very leading question to suit a narrative doesn’t scream honest conversation " I still would have been blind to this story had it not been brought to my attention here. I think it is a legitimate question to ask, how did a person carrying a 10kg bomb, twice the power of the Boston marathon bomb! Not make it to the front of my news streams? What part of the post did you find leading?

" No… being found mentally fit to stand is NOT the same as not being mentally ill or having mental health issues! You certainly did not watch the summary of convictions because it was point specifically made by the judge! He had a whole list of mental health issues, but none that should be used to mitigate what he did! You are right he was found guilty of terrorism charges.. do you know what they were? Read material.. you got that one! And producing ricin… because the original plan was for a Tokyo underground style attack!

The OP was only asking a legitimate question as to why this story was pretty much kept out of the news. Must admit I missed it as well. You talk about agenda's. Who's agenda? You highlight the equally (or even more) evil Prosper case but in this context that is not a fair comparison. Maybe the question should have been: Why was the Prosper case plastered across the front pages and this story buried? That would have been a very fair question.

"Prosper butchered three people in cold blood, knifing his brother over 100 times and yes he was planning to commit mass murder so yes I would fully expect his case to be all over every type of media .. I hadn't heard of this guy in question till today, it was only (briefly checked) on BBC, sky, Reuters and a cpl of Leeds based local outlets.. In actual cost of life the comparison is stretched.. But no one has the right (not even when I share many points with, apart from footy) to dictate how and what we debate especially when it's a pretty tame one in comparison to some we see.." Thank you. I have no idea why Fabio is so uncomfortable debating a story that is in the mainstream media and obviously of national importance.

Quite surprising because Fabio is usually a very fair debater on here.

Don't like the story being discussed in case certain people or groups are seen to be bad so try to shut it down instead" Islamist led/Inspired terrorism is by far the biggest terror threat to the public in the UK (and all of Europe) and has been for at least 25 years. Why anyone would not want to discuss this and examine the reasons why is genuinely beyond me, yet it does seem the media consistently downplays the evidence of this threat.
