" That is pretty much the way I saw it. Zelensky thinks that he can use the US to get better terms (and land back) in any peace deal but Trump is having none of it. In Trumps eyes the Crimea is gone and apart from a bit of tinkering with the final border in eastern Ukraine it will end up as we are now. There is no winning way out for Zelensky. The US cavalry are not going to come charging over the hill to his rescue. Prolonging the war will only serve Putin who will carry on making gains and reducing Ukraine's manpower and when the inevitable peace deal is signed it will be Putin in the stronger position. However, Trump losing his temper and washing all that dirty linen in public was unforgivable. Zelensky has to accept reality and Trump needs to reel his neck in a bit. | |||

The land lost so far isn't being given up by Putin as difficult it is for Ukraine to accept, there might be a bit of swapping some for the kursk pocket but that's small now.. | |||
