Labour are presenting "The Crime and Policing Bill" today in parliament. Backed up with a plan to recruit 13,000 extra neighbourhood officers to help enforce the legislation. There is a lot in it and will cover the following changes and enhancements:

Warrantless Searches for items of theft

Immediate seizure of nuisance vehicles

Assaulting Retail Workers specific crime

Child Criminal Exploitation

Cuckooing

Drink Spiking

Non Consensual Intimate Image Abuse

Respect Orders (sounds like an ASBO)

Protection of Public Spaces and Memorials

War Memorials Protection

Vehicle Theft Prevention, (electronic devises they use to be criminal).

Strengthen reporting of child sexual abuse

Strengthen police accountability

Where will they put all the extra convicts.

The prison service is facing an exodus of staff ahead of a projected increase in the prison population of nearly 25% in the next four years

In the year to March 2024, 23.6% of prisoners in the UK were held in overcrowded conditions, according to GOV.UK

At the end of May 2024, 71 of the 122 prisons in England and Wales were holding more people than their CNA. The most overcrowded jail was Durham, which had a CNA of 573 but was being asked to accommodate 973. The prison system is beyond full.

Some of the things on the list I was surprised was not illegal or a specific crime already.

Such as cuckooing, when criminals move into (take over) vulnerable peoples homes, and commit crimes from there.

Community service needs to be ramped up, maybe?
