"Power in the US is split between the President, Congress, and the judiciary. So Trump has no more ability to be a Dictator than any other US President. European Leftists may be getting confused because they are used to soporific European politicians who don’t do anything, and President Trump is actually doing his job, as opposed to his predecessor who couldn’t string a sentence together and spent half his time as President on the beach at his holiday home. They may there be confusing “dynamism” with “being a Dictator”. " There is evidence developing that he and his cronies are ignoring the courts, and that they know the courts have no real power to retaliate.

"Not yet Shag, not yet. " Indeed. You have to get all your ducks in a row first. Even Adolf knew he had to do that. If Trump manages to neuter the US Courts - the citizens' last line of defence until the next election - then he'll be a dictator.

"He isn't, probably would like to be, but zero chance of it happening." This.. He's like the angry child who's been allowed to pick the team, set the rules etc because last season he wasn't picked.. The appointments are more disruptive and will have his beady angry eyes upon themselves when the reality of what he wants meets the constitution which the supreme court will work to and abide by regardless of having a majority 'republican' leaning..

But the US Courts and Constitution have shown themselves to be both robust and flexible enough to withstand him. The biggest danger would be if he found a way to stand for a 3rd term.

Ultimately that's what he is, a disrupter who leans towards chaos more than control.

"He would be given the chance as that's how he's run his business Most politicians would be, the government is supposed to be set up to stop individuals going too far The left crying about Donnie being Hitler are as ridiculous to me as the right crying that Obama was the antichrist He's just another politician, he'll be gone in a few year's and the world will carry on, just like it did after his first term " Agree with that but would add given his position he stands to cause pretty seismic changes globally with some of what he will do or try to do these next four years..

They were last time. Hopefully, they will remain so. They're the only protection US citizens have from him. The rest of us around the world. Who knows? Grow a spine and resist? Or cave in to his will? He doesn't have to be a dictator to cause massive harm.

" …… and let me cut the rest of the diatribe off Trump in a lot of his “Executive Orders “ so far is trying to circumvent the powers of other branches For example… birthright citizenship….i think that probably comes under judiciary and the 14th amendment! Freezing spending… only congress has the power of the purse! And you can’t stop spending if that money has already been allocated!.. you can’t just claw it back! Disbanding government departments… and can only be done via congress We you are seeing is a concerted effort to grab powers

This happens all the time in the UK and elsewhere. Government tries to do something and some pressure group goes to court to stop it. Sometimes they do sometimes they don’t. It’s just how a developed country works (or in the case of the UK no longer works). When the Tory government’s Rwanda plan gets knocked back by the courts it’s just how things are. I might think that things need reorganising somewhat to allow more or less action, but I don’t go around screaming that Rishi Sunak is the next Hitler.

"I see Donald's claiming the CDU/CSU election victory is partly down to him. Clearly, what Merz had to say has passed him by." It’s going to come as a shock to Donald when someone tells him his vice president refused to meet any German party when he was in Munich other than the afd …. And he is going to be even more gutted when he find out Merz is very “merkel like” …

He's showing no sign at all of trying to be nice to Putin. She tried it, thinking it was worth a punt; it turned out not to be. Can't see that mistake being repeated.

"He wants to be, but not yet. Vis a vis the bot's comments above about a "strong leader". He is, like those that have gone before him, testing the resolve of the rest of the USA to his authoritarian powers. His problem is he has none of the skills required to pull it off like those that have come before him. There are however already signs that the spineless acquiescence of elected Republican members is being tested by their own electors so there is a hope that the majority of the electorate, if not the House and Senate, may act eventually. God knows what SCOTUS will do. On the positive side the newly elected Chancellor Mertz of Germany has identified the need for Europe to rapidly rearm to combat the threat "from both sides". Heralding an end to the USA and Germany relationship that has stood since 1945. Sadly I think he is right. We have grown soft. Now is the time to stand up and recognise the real and present danger facing us from both sides. " I think in some cases trump likes to paint a picture with his speeches and announcements. In the case of Germany and others they are seeing a picture of a Europe without American military protection and a common conclusion is that European countries need to urgently increase their defence capabilities. The war in Ukraine has unfortunately helped trump massively get that point across. He also is not adverse to using American help to cut a business deal as like seems to be happy with Ukraine and their minerals.

"Well since Trump's emergence on the world political stage he definitely seems to be the catalyst for the "me first" attitude which seems to be rampant in today's society, forgoing the feelings and respect for others putting ones self above all." America first, he became POTUS on the back of that. I also think European countries are waking up to the fact that they have not considered themselves first, and are now struggling to workout what to do from both a military and internal perspective.
