Why do we think Donald hates Canucks so much? Did he get knocked back by a Miss Canada in the past? Did melania like Justin a little bit too much?

It’s going a bit beyond just bluster… keeps up the bullying

There was a theory that Canada could call trumps bluff and potentially ask for some sort of EU membership (basically everything except currency union and parliamentary representation)

One reason springs to mind....

DST is a direct tax on US tech giants, and Trump sees it as a hostile move against America. The fact that Canada has backdated DST makes it even worse for Musk and Zuckerberg..

I think the US has warned the UK over this tax too, £526 million was raised in 2022 -2023.

Trump does not like the rest of the world taking money off US tech.

America first.

I suppose Trump could tell Musk and Zuckerberg to only peddle their wares only in the states. That way only the states get their taxes.

Now whether they would like that idea is another thing.

Trump, a billionaire, who pays less Tax than an Alabama field hand on food stamps, lives in his

narcissistic bubble and views any attempt at rebalancing society or taking what is his with naked aggression.

If the massive US tech firms did not avoid tax like they do then DST would not be required.

It shifting subject after subject with Trump… but actually I don’t have an issue with DST, especially the way that us tech companies use shell subsidiaries to pay less tax

Flipping the same argument, Canadian and UK governments could tell their businesses to peddle their wares only in their countries if they don't want tariffs.

When Trump looks at the balance sheet, he doesn’t like the deficit hence the pushback over DST. I’d like our government to focus on fiscal discipline that drives growth, rather than constantly looking for new ways to tax us.

The idea that simply cutting taxes, cutting lose the needy in society to fend for themselves, abandoning people overseas in desparate need and undefunding public services will lead to growth is patently false.

When the rich are given even more money they invest where they see the best return. For too long now they see that outside the UK. We need investment into the UK not out.

Wont happen under this government, they have done their best to stifle business and attack those who can create opportunities, so much so they had to back track.

Why would anyone invest in the UK?

Actually coming back to this post is that Trump has said that countries that impose a VAT on sales , the VAT would also be considered to be a tariff on US products

Apparently the US government pre Trump already operates a list of tariffs on imported goods that is 13,000 product types long.

Anyone would think that Trump is the first person to introduce any tariffs.

We are living in a new age of empire building. Trump takes Canada, Greenland and Panama, Putin takes us back to the USSR, Xi takes Taiwan and all the South China Sea islands, Erdogan rebuilds the Ottoman empire. The EU and UK busy themselves with Trans rights and Asylum Hostel building (yes, an aggregation, but not too far removed from reality).

Not quite the angle but let’s run with it since you were “cooking”

That 13,000 product book … it’s the WTO book of tariffs… here is a secret.. everyone works from the same book

However trump WOULD probably be the first person to rip up an agreement he actually negotiated (USMCA) because he ripped up the agreement before that (NAFTA)

That not really “good faith” is it…

Does not the USA impose a for of VAT on sales in the form of individual State sales tax. Which could also be considered a tariff on non American products.
