Will they be able to prevent their President, aided by his VP, loyalists in Congress and Elon Musk, from dragging the USA into utter contempt for its own laws?

I would've thought that was their business

The Judges will try, but following the universal Laminectomy performed on the GOP Senators and Representatives by the MAGA mob no one will step up to defend the Law.

It could lead to a complete breakdown of Law and order in the USA.

It might. Or, it could morph into the sort of law and order the Russians, Chinese and Iranians have.

There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of the Constitution and the actual powers of the President. The US has built in checks and balances that prevent any individual from overriding the rule of law.

It is crazy to think Trump or any president can change constitutional law at will. That is not how a democracy works

His aim is to bend the Law to suit him. He is in the process of doing that at this time.

Presumably Trump can do what Biden did over student loan relief and just ignore the courts completely.

No reason why Trump should be held to a higher standard.

Presidents can push legal boundaries, as many before him have, but they are constrained by courts and Congress. I think we are seeing the aftermath of executive orders being pushed out, we have also seen some of those EO's being challenged in courts and stopped.

Indeed. Plenty of his supporters, including his VP seem to have fundamentally misunderstood the US Constitution and how it limits Presidential power.

The judges are, quite rightly, doing their jobs. Senior Republicans are calling their integrity into question - not unlike The Daily Mail's "Enemies of the People" moment.

As you say, it's not how democracy works. Right now, those judges are fighting hard to maintain it and they're outnumbered two to one.
