Leaving aside the tariffs, how much will observing such a boycott - and a reduction in tourism to the USA - really affect their economy?

I think they'll notice it but it won't bother them much.

But that's also like. Don't fly on a USA made plane, don't buy fule, cereal or bred as it might be from USA very hard to do.

It's surprisingly easy to avoid flying in an American-made plane. Airbus and Bombardier are doing very well these days, while Boeing are rapidly losing ground.

People would get pretty bored watching East European sitcoms or Algerian romcoms on TV. Listening to "world" music is not for the faint hearted and there is only so many Bollywood block busters you can watch before going on suicide watch.

Apparently Dacia makes the cheapest new car in the uk, it’s also electric. Tesla’s days are numbered

So you book a holiday but when you get to the airport it's a 787 so I guess its do you want to get on or not.

It's public knowledge which companies own which planes. If someone cared about these things, they could just look it up in advance, and book with the right company.

I think we’ll miss them before they miss us! Who uses an apple phone, uses google, uses Facebook, uses Microsoft software. We rely very heavily on the US & have sheltered under their defensive umbrella for far too long. It’s about time we; UK, western economies, Canada etc put our hands deeper into our pockets to pay for our own protection instead of expecting the US to fund & subsidise us. Good on you DT, too many have ridden on the back of your tax payers.

As a large portion of products come from Gchina and flying is a rare occurrence.

There's nothing original coming from America entertainment wise, Kanye is a total fruit loop. Most people can watch old repeats anywhere.

My burgers are Aberdeen Angus the buns are Tesco my cider is Thatchers.

No way will I buy the new Capri, vintage Capri fan here. My Elvis collection is complete.

I'm pretty much set for life.

Part of it is trump.. and Elon…. Part of it is Chinese and European EV competition at the lower price points where Tesla doesn’t do that vehicle.. yet

It’s actually working in Canada already to the point that American politicians are already going on tv there trying to separate themselves from Trump

See… I think the Canada and the EU are missing a trick… imagine if they agreed to a one year joint “Schengen area” (they could call it a trial for the purpose of this) could you imagine how much tourism would be generated

If you buy anything you are probably paying fees indirectly to Visa, Mastercard and Amex through the payment system. Or to Google Pay/Apple Pay, also American.

If you want to stop buying American you’ll just have to stop existing.

I’m not convinced a few leftie bores in the UK not buying a new iPhone is going to make much difference to the US economy which continues to way outstrip UK and EU economic performance.

There is a big world out there. The world doesn’t end at the Islington border. The UK is just increasingly irrelevant and out of touch.

Yes good idea let’s rejoin the EU and take advantage of their economic, political and cultural success. Things are booming over there.

The only way forward is to relive the past.

Sadly the UK has just run out of ideas.

Okay… let’s me give you an example… bourbon… made in Kentucky

The biggest export market for bourbon is Canada… accounts for about 20% of world wide exports

Last week a campaign started suggesting people switch from bourbon to Canadian Rye Whiskey, that and the site of American alcoholic products pulled from shelves was enough to get republicans senators to beg not to go through with tariffs….

Tariffs goes both ways… regardless of what trump tries to tell you

There are already tariffs in place for thousands of products…. I wish you could see the WTO tariffs guidelines because it’s a hefty old book with thousands of pages

So let’s take a product we actually know very well that is very common… the good old motor car

It’s rare that you see a us built car in the UK or the EU because there is a 40% tariff on it… there is a reason you don’t see cheap European built cars in the USA, because the US slap a 40% tariff on it! The reason you do see luxury European cars on American roads is the theory that if you are prepared to spend a couple hundred thousand dollars on a car then no tariff (even though it’s still 40%) is going to deter you!

"It’s actually working in Canada already to the point that American politicians are already going on tv there trying to separate themselves from Trump"

I think Canada will be the one place where many US citizens - even some of his supporters - will really come to regret Trump's actions. He's destroyed a lot of friendship and goodwill. Most Canadians are likely to remain unwilling to buy American, where it's avoidable, until he's out of office.
