Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority’s proposal, backbench MP’s wage would rise from £91,346 to just under £94,000. 2.8% increase.

Richard Lloyd, the chair of Ipsa, said: “Our pay proposal for 2025-26 reflects the experience of the wider working public-sector population, and recognises both the vital role of MPs and the current economic climate.”

How about they get their £94,000, minus all their other income (after taxes) from second jobs and dividends?

Only kidding. 😂

It's just lucky that soany of them have their non-exectutive directorships and newspaper column side hustles to fall back on.

People are outraged at this, it's barely anything IMO. I don't feel its nearly enough for what they should be paid.

Now, does that mean I think most of them do a good job? No. I think tax payers get poor vfm because politicians are not encouraged by the pay check that they receive for the responsibility burden, not when much better paying jobs hold less responsibility. Hence most of them being wealthy prior so they don't need to do a good job. If you pay peanuts you get 🐒.

I understand that paying more for something that is seemingly failing will come sour to most, you might see that as the same as water companies putting up bills to pay for infrastructure when the service is crap in a similar light for instance but things cost money.

I liken it mostly to how football contracts are, it can be such a short career at the top, I challenge anyone to not pick the half million salary with 100s thousands in bonus over a 'meagre' £90k one and the constant threat of publicity with it

Yer you could get more being a CEO of a charity, The CEO of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) earns £175,000 annually. This salary includes employer pension contributions and life assurance cover. Nice if you can get it.

As a matter of principle I argued in favour of pensioners keeping the fuel payment as the ones who don't need can spend it within the economy, ie buy a Greg's na coffee or whatever, as long as it's going into the economy.

So in the same principle as long as MPs

spend their money on British goods n services and not a villa in Spatula or foreign car made of plastic or a tart from Mandrovia I'm OK with it.

Buy British.

2.8% seems reasonable

Minimum wage increases by 6.7%

I don’t suspect private sector salaries will increase by as much. Guesstimate 1.6 - 2%

Maybe the solution is to cut the number of MPs, make being an MP a full time job and then raise the salary to a level that will attract capable people rather than middle managers?

I wouldn't do that job for 90 grand. I wouldn't for 200... them being traitors is subjective and mostly irrelevant to that point.

I don't see what that has to do with the pay level of an MP

I think they should be paid well but we need better safeguards and structures to improve the quality and integrity of our politicians.
