UK Population Figures

UK official population is set to rise to over 70 million, almost entirely due to legal migration.

Water companies have suggested the actual numbers could be 5-10 million higher due to illegal migration and poor statistics.

Incredibly the Govt has no real idea who is living in the UK.

Is this figure sustainable or even desirable ?

The ONS stressed the figures are projections - not predictions or forecasts - and warned that real numbers could be higher or lower than suggested.

So what’s the point.

It’s like that office colleague who keeps walking around with the same file making them look busy.

I doubt that actually, legal migration probably peaked couple of years ago but will still continue at historically high levels.

Worldometers has an interesting graph (not exact years and figures):

Approx 50 million in 1950, approx 60 million in 2004, approx 70 million 2025. So it took approx 50 years to increase by ten million then twenty years to increase by another 10.

1980 saw the lowest migration increase. 2022 saw the highest.

As a quirk of fate and irony an illegal immigrant may become Prime Minister.

I personally would not be happy if this happened but the way the world is going strange things are happening every day.

The government not setting targets to reduce immigration to is good in one way as the last government showed they were completely meaningless. However they do agree it is to high and needs reducing but without committing to even a ball park figure how do you measure any success. Or is that deliberate to avoid any accusations of failure?

I guess this correlates somehow to the estimated global population increase of two billion more people by 2080 (UN)

No birth control due to religion. Some countries are having to ask the parents to reduce producing more the 1 or 2 children.Up until recently war and famine and desease have been the main forms of birth control, with reducing living spaces their government's are only now realising the cause n effect syndrome of births and war.

No birth control due to religion. What about lack of availability of birth control. That might be more accurate but only one of many factors of population growth. More people means more babies

Both my hobby horses rolled into one here!

The joint disasters of obsession with a perceived need for growth (including population) and societies obsession with watching the moron's monitor (formerly the idiot's lantern).
