Neil Gaiman - any better than Harvey Weinstein? Better than JKR?

Almost everyone agrees that HW is a despicable sex pest, who coerced women into acts that they might have otherwise not performed, but for a huge power imbalance.

Similar claims are being made about NG. Like HW, he was a darling of the left (we actually went to see him and his (soon to be ex-)wife Amanda Palmer perform at a New Statesman sponsored event. We're both huge fans of his (and AP) and are quite upset that such a great artist has allegations like this against him.

Comparisons are being made with JK Rowling - specifically asking why so many people (his chiefly progressive fan base) are trying to excuse or downplay his actions, while so many people from a similar political leaning are castigating JKR as a killer, abuser or worse, due to her public comments on trans issues.

Any thoughts?

The comparison with the heroic JKR are, of course, utterly deranged.

"The comparison with the heroic JKR are, of course, utterly deranged."

It's contrast more than comparison. Contrast of a segment of society cancelling JKR, while defending their choice to remain fans of NG's work.

Bring fair to NG, recent WhatsApp messages appear to make him look a lot less guilty than initial reports.

I think it is important to separate the work the person their actions and their views . many famous people are talented but not good or nice people

The rhetoric of the progressive sheep is seen as balanced and justified no matter how outrageous, exaggerated or hurtful when used to defend against the ideals of the "far right". "Far right" = any person who questions the rhetoric...

The echo chambers do a wonderful job of elevating the diatribe to dizzying heights of moral panic and self righteous fury, and where most extreme accusations become accepted as the truth, or silenced if one of their own!

Don't want to question the rhetoric

Agreed. Completely.

People want to separate people into one of two camps (us/not us) and view the entirety of their existence through that lens.
