The underlying conditions are very different between now and 1976 (not 1978). The problem is that nobody of any political persuasion has any palatable solutions to bringing the economy under control. Liz Truss had the Reform, extreme libertarian view and look what that did. The far left want ever more taxation for a fairer society but we are already seeing that higher taxation is stifling growth. I think that the Government is doing what it can with measured tax rises but a stable political environment which has been missing for at least a decade. | |||
