I know we all have different views on migrants but this is hilarious.

A left wing theatre company in Paris opened its doors to 250 African migrants for a show and conference called "Reinventing the welcome for refugees in France".

That was on December 10th and the migrants, all young men claiming to be under 18, have refused to leave and have set up home in the theatre.

Now the theatre is facing bankruptcy with losses on ticket sales into hundreds of thousands of Euro's.

Oh the naivety of the left. PMSL.

You can't make this up!

I have just read this; Local businesses have also complained of losses due to the occupation.

The bistrot next to the 19th century venue, a popular spot for theatregoers to eat and drink before and after shows, has reported €30,000 in lost revenue so far.

'They are ruining my business,' said the manager Elia, herself the daughter of Algerian migrants.

Not usually concerned with stories like this, especially when they're from other countries. But I have just had a quick look to what you referred to and it seems I can only find articles from gb news and the daily mail, known right wing news outlets.

I can't really get a good enough grasp of what it's about to have an opinion other than it looks like some sort of extremist protest.

The question I have is why is it funny to see working people lose their seemingly honest livelihood because of a political standpoint you don't agree with?

Goes on to show that most of these "Refugees welcome" groups live in posh and safe areas where they never have to come face to face with the asylum seekers. Their views on this matter are based purely on the handpicked stories which are fed to them by the left wing media.

"Look at this unfortunate baby struggling to get asylum"

"Look at this one success story of a refugee doing well in this country"

It's quite fun watching them get a taste of reality.

Would it be fine for any of the left wingers to celebrate if Musk faces huge losses and is forced to shut down Twitter?

If that is what they want to do then fine. It's their choice.

Because they brought it on themselves through naivety and stupidity while virtue signalling to the rest of the world. That's what's funny.

I don't know sufficient details of French law, refugee rights, including accommodation rights and business trespass law, to be able to make any comment that's likely to be informed or reasonable.

The story is also carried by The Times and www.artsprofessional.co.uk. The Socialist Worker covered a similar story last year.

I agree. I am just pointing out that the left tends to make fun of it when a company they hate goes down. The jobs lost then don't matter apparently.

In the "good old days" the CRS would have raided the place, cracked a lot of heads and loaded all the "refugees" into the back of a van.

Do you not see the morality of how that sounds though; "I'm going to laugh at people that had something bad happen while trying to help others out"?

How do you know it's virtue signalling and not just misfortune? Even then, I don't understand why sticking the knife in and trying to one up is something worth announcing to everyone is what brings you great joy🤷‍♂️

Where's the misfortune of migrants here?

They've taken over the theatre, and it is the theatre people are laughing at.

This weird take makes me

You must be able to see the irony in this?

Left wing Activists put on a show called Reinventing the welcome for refugees in France.

250 undocumented migrants turned up and didn’t leave, with even more turning up after. The activists are now complaining to the government to do something about it and other migrants are moaning that these migrants are losing them business.

If I wrote a play with this premise it would be have been cancelled

There's definitely irony, but laughing out loud? Not really that funny.

Like I said, due to the articles available to me have a certain bias and without going through pay walls etc. then I can't get an idea of the context. But mostly; It's in another country, things move noticeably differently where I live now to each and every other city I've lived before in the UK, let alone somewhere else with another language.

The only opinion I 'can' have is that the information available is hard to find where the pissing myself laughing story is

I think the writers of the play could use this in a very positive and empowering way.

.

They could say, "We do not want to exploit you, and you will be paid for this, but can we use you and your stories within our play ? You have an emotional authenticity that no actor could hope to mimic. Let's work together, for your benefit and ours. If you are willing and consent".

.

Sitting in the audience hearing these stories from genuine folks is more compelling and powerful, in my opinion.

.

It would need to be handled very delicately and sensitively, but I feel it could be ground-breaking if done well.

One flaw in the plan, they don't want to talk to anyone from the play and the theatre is very close to bankruptcy so might not be able to put on future plays.

Another thought, would you let them back in the building to have that conversation knowing how it turned out the last time?

This does seem a bizar situation. Maybe the theatre people thought these migrants were budding doctors etc and wanted to show them some culture in the hope they would like it and not escape to the UK. Seems to have worked to well

The European Union (EU) has a duty to protect refugees and asylum seekers who are fleeing persecution or serious harm in their home country. This duty is based on the 1951 Geneva Convention on the protection of refugees, which all EU member states are party to. I assume that includes France ?

.

The theatre should be holding the government to account, which considering it is a socialist-centrist government, is pretty shameful they are not doing more. (If they are, I'm not seeing much in assorted news reports).
