Habib trashes the hypocrisy of Reform

Habib made the case yesterday of the underlying hypocrisy of Reform. A so called political party that is championing democracy and freedom of speech but which itself is anti-democratic and anti-freedom of speech in structure. Nigel Farage owns nine of the fifteen shares of the limited company and therefore has sole control by majority shareholding. No other shareholder or “supporter” can have any say or influence.

In other news, Richard Tice (who owns five shares) once objected in the strongest possible term to George Soros (a non-resident billionaire, potentially influencing British politics). Now though Tice and Farage are looking for the help of a foreign billionaire for the sole purpose of influencing British politics.

From the perspective of this website and everything that it stands for, I personally have been amazed for years that there are people who support this liberal and tolerant lifestyle that we all enjoy who can’t see that what we like and enjoy doing is not something that would be deemed as being even remotely acceptable by any authoritarian right wing political party.

Reform has my vote up in Scotland and I've paid the £25 reform membership

Have a dig at Reform all you want but Farage got the referendum for Brexit and I helped push it forward

At the end of the day the people of the UK will decide which party runs.

So Ben Habib is talking nonsense is he?

He very accurately pointed out the hypocrisy of Reform championing democracy whilst being anti-democratic in nature and structure.

How do feel about Musk “potentially” bankrolling Reform? What would be in it for him?

Musk has the greatest Engineers and greatest minds in the World working for him, why would I have a concern of him backing reform?

Would you rather have a thicko who leaves school with zero qualifications and pregnant at 16 running the country like we In the UK have right now?

I may not like all of Musk's views but he has the highest educated and greatest engineering minds behind him.

Whether you like Reform or not, you must see that it's possible Habib has some sort of axe to grind.

Reform passed a motion to give party members control at their Birmingham conference. Farage can be voted out by a vote of no-confidence from members.

According to the BBC.

Reform will effective dig their own grave if they accept substantial funding from Musk. Can't see Brits wearing it.

If it kicks out Labour I'm all for it.

It hasn't happened but I hope it does.

A $100 million donation from Musk is no different from a £25 donation from myself when it comes to wealth and you pay what you can afford

British people have been accepting of donations from foreign entities for years.

What you'll find is, any opposition to where the money is going will shout loud, and then remain silent when it's going somewhere they agree with.

As Musk is now connected to the incoming American government isn’t this classed as electoral interference. Would reform supporters be ok for the Labour Party to receive large donations from a socialist foreign government.

It’s a slippery slope.

I remember the Twitter/X thread and from the mood on that thread towards Musk, I do not see the British people going for reform if it is bank rolled by Musk.

A PLC/Limited Company running the country one would think the would be impossible but seeing as business big business is already running government, might as well have reform in to finish us off.

Musk would not be directly contributing to Reform, that would not be allowed.

He can use Twitter UK as a registered UK business to donate money to Reform legally.

Here is the loophole as it now being called: UK registered companies owned by foreign individuals can legally donate to political parties, regardless of where their profits are generated.

The irony is that while this thread discusses supposed right wing oppression, Labour is now pushing to close this loophole to block Musk’s funding to Reform UK. At the same time, they continue to impose policies without consultation or accountability, such as Rayner telling the British public they can't say no to when or where building takes place, removing due diligence in planning applications to steamroller through building works, taking away WFA knowing it will cause deaths, and lets not forget the allegations of their own undemocratic practices within the labour party, excluding certain members from candidate selections.

Strange how the shoe fits so perfectly on the other foot...

This is not whataboutery.

Whataboutery is when you excuse or justify one action because of another.

I have not done that. I have made a comparison for relevance, which is Labour’s push to close a loophole and allegations of undemocratic practices centred at them.

no excuses.

We enjoy a liberal and tolerant lifestyle that involves sex outside of marriage. Reform and others like them bang on about Christian values and Christian cultures.

Is it just accepted nowadays that being a supporter of a Ltd Company like Reform means that you are just a hypocrite because you don’t share their values - you just want (and hope) that the only people they go after are foreigners?

The word "Christian" doesn't appear once on Reform's website. Where do you get the idea that they "bang on about Christian values"?

I’m confused by your direction, are you genuinely comparing Farage to Hitler?

Moving on to your first post and subsequent...

The Reform party structure is well known and has already been addressed. Farage recognised that the original share based setup was only practical during the party’s early days but would be unsuitable for a growing political party. At the Reform conference in September, the party committed to transitioning into a fully democratic structure.

As for Ben Habib’s remarks, those were made back in July. Why highlight outdated comments while ignoring the agreed changes in September that answer those criticisms of the party setup? It gives the impression of trying to mislead with headlines that are no longer valid but are still useful for a particular narrative...

I’m also baffled by your suggestion that Reform would dictate choices like sex outside of marriage. Where did that even come from?

Thinking about it a little more, the only explanation that comes to mind is that Reform’s growing popularity has triggered some nervousness. Seeing Farage sitting with Trump and Musk discussing the future must be unsettling for left wing activists.

It also doesn’t look good for Starmer or Badenoch when Farage, the strategist, is building influential relationships on the global stage ahead of them.
