"Think this is one of those cases imho that deserves the death penalty, had the radio on at work listening to the judge handing out the sentences... can never believe how humans can treat a minor like this, it's just horrific. " it's horrific but I still wouldn't support capital punishment, that is the state operating on the same level. I really don't understand how they could treat that girl like that though and life sentences are the right response.

"Think this is one of those cases imho that deserves the death penalty" In this case the bloke responsible eventually admitted it. Do you think he would have done that if he was facing the death penalty?

"There is one argument against death penalty and it's a pretty solid one - You can never be 100% sure. There have been numerous cases of wrong convictions. I prefer a full life sentence with some f0rced labour to pay for their own food and stay, for violent criminals." There are many cases when one can be 100% sure. The brutal murder of Lee Rigby is one example. I do however agree with a full life sentence with forced labour though. A quick death is far too easy a punishment.

Do you think he would have done that if he was facing the death penalty?" Well using this question I ask another question. Do you think that they would have been so quick to cause such a horrific act had the death penalty been there as a deterrent?

I believe he was the sort of bloke that thinks he won't get found out, and that he can blame others if he does. He brazened it out in court, pleading not guilty, and it was only after much questioning that he admitted it. I very much doubt he would have done that if the death penalty were hanging over him.

"what you think he would rather do 40 yrs that death I know what I’d choose death" I think you may be somewhat unusual in that respect.

"A bit like this one ... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cg520q1p68do I don't call the death penalty barbaric, if anything l figure keeping them alive at the tax payers expense rather disappointing, cost of hundreds of thousands a year whilst the ordinary people struggle, never mind the old ..." Without wading into morality, I am not convinced that economic arguments should apply. The imposition of capital punishment should only be on the basis of deprivation of life as a penalty for a heinous crime.

What's special about deprivation of life that makes it different to deprivation of liberty?

Having in lived in many countries with practically no crime because of the ultra stiff penalties, I’d say No. He wouldn't have behaved like that in Pakistan, the community and police would have lynched him.
