It’s British mentality of bashing wealthy and creating too many entitled living on dole, allowed to vote…so what else could you expect.

Make NHS private for 18-60 yrs old, and see how people start appreciating wealthy as they need more jobs to pay insurance cost.

Right now Labour voters just laugh at hard working and tax paying people, they just don’t understand the long term implications.

Labour wants to build homes and grow economy - by doing what, Taxing business and choking them…common idiots …you need to give tax cuts/beraks to wealthy people so they can set up their shop here and create job opportunities. These are seriously living in La La land in age of darkest powers looming over head, artificial general intelligence.

Bring wealthy people to invest in this country before it’s too late. But Labours Marxist ideology is taking this nation in shit hole.

UK gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have increased by 0.1% in Quarter 3 (July to Sept) 2024, following growth of 0.5% in Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2024. (ONS)

The BDO Optimism Index fell 5.81 points to 93.49 in November, its weakest reading since January 2023, when businesses were contending with elevated inflation and political instability. This is the biggest month-on-month drop that the Optimism Index has seen since August 2021.

This month’s decline in confidence is likely to reflect businesses’ immediate reaction to announcements in the Autumn Budget

Well they said growth in the long term. However the ONS said after the budget they expect a growth spike in the next year or so then returning to previous predicted levels or even below previous predicted levels, so different to what the government claim. This latest drop was not expected by the ONS who blame pre warnings of the budget and the budget itself.

It could contract further during December if the trains aren’t running, and taking people into town for Christmas shopping, meeting up with friends and family in pubs and restaurants.

Another well negotiated pay deal from Labour, adding fuel to their own bonfire….

Bilateral is not something they know a lot about…

The incoming Govt spends it's first three months talking down the economy and then hammers Business in the budget.

A self-fulfilling prophecy.

I don't think it's about industrial action.

Drivers are now refusing overtime because they earn enough, which in itself is great but not when there isn't enough drivers to cover all shifts.

It might have been, but now as mentioned they are refusing to drive outside of their Monday - Friday rota.

Yes that's right, Haigh gave away our money and didn't think, could we get a more balanced workforce in exchange for a 15% hike and backdated to 2022.

Every pay deal done has been a prize give away, not one thing negotiated in return. Very poor

Incredible how a budget delivered on *checks notes* October 30th managed to contract the economy for the entire month of October.

Did Reeves announce a massive tax on pumpkins and ghost costumes that hit last minute buyers?

So sad to see the usual suspects falling for right wing talking points again exposing their own ignorance and ability to be easily led.

Reading the BBC and ONS reports, it is the constant talking down of the economy since Labour took office and the promise of tax rises were the main causes of the drop. People have been concerned if they will have a job so hold back spending. The effects of the budget are still to come

cahoots

It's pretty basic maths.

Make it more expensive for businesses to employ people so some will be worried about losing their jobs. The rising costs of running a business will result in increased sell on costs which inevitably result in higher prices/inflation which will slow down the economy.

The Christmas trading figures will be an interesting read.

Three months of her boss talking down the economy did not help. Business confidence index has fallen, for last four months. Bank rate reductions are slower due to budget.

New car sales have been slumping in 2024, with the market experiencing a 6% year-on-year decline in October:

Petrol and diesel: Deliveries of both petrol and diesel vehicles fell sharply, by -14.2% and -20.5% respectively.

Private car purchases down -11.8%

New motorcycle and scooter sales down -5.8%.

Bloomberg reporting (08 nov) that Insolvency filings rose 64% from a year earlier.

Significantly there are more businesses closing in the UK than being started (ons).

Holiday let and staycation bookings have fallen and a record number of holiday let properties have been put on the market. As well as less market demand the Tory budget attack on FHL operators has contributed to this.

Housing developers mothballing sites and harsh requirement for affordable put on housing developers, we will not see those new homes.

I cannot see any rainbow for Reeves

The majority of the voting population put labour in charge and will be / are influenced by their comments, which has resulted in a shrinking economy.

Do you want the short version? Tory austerity measures were implemented because the last Labour government borrowed excessively, lost control of public finances, and left the country with a significant deficit. Austerity was a response to fix the fiscal mess Labour created.

Have a look at the inflation figures for last year

Also have a look at the graph of the economy for the last 2 years, it’s been very unpredictable, ups and downs everywhere, for example or dropped 0.4 % in October last year

The effects of the budget have yet to be felt in the figures but we will find out if the budget helped or not in the coming month's. Early reports from big and small businesses are not positive but hopefully they have it wrong. Hopefully the ONS also has it wrong about the long term growth not improving despite that being the stated aim of the chancellor

The effects of the budget have yet to be felt in the figures but we will find out if the budget helped or not in the coming month's. Early reports from big and small businesses are not positive but hopefully they have it wrong. Hopefully the ONS also has it wrong about the long term growth not improving despite that being the stated aim of the chancellor "

Tourism poor, we are v light on bookings and not much in for next year. Plymouth Harley and triumph outlets in administration, billionaire Range boss made £25M loss, ONS also reports more businesses closing than being opened. Credit conditions at banks remain both tight and expensive for businesses, not much happening below 8% and only short term commitments being offered. And as you say impact of budget yet to be seen.

"So much for Labour's plan for growth

Labour have been in power since July, it will take years to mend the damage done by 14 years of the tories and Brexit , thankfully they have at least 4 more years to achieve this

True, they've got plenty of time to make things much worse.

Or more likely make things much better

They would need to reinvent themselves

Not at all, short term pain for long term gain, they have plenty of time to turn things around, it will take years to clean up the mess the tories made

The Tories (never voted for them in my life) did not leave an economic mess, Labour inherited an improving economy. (Declining under funded public services is not to be confused with economic )

Why were the public services under funded?

Do you want the short version? Tory austerity measures were implemented because the last Labour government borrowed excessively, lost control of public finances, and left the country with a significant deficit. Austerity was a response to fix the fiscal mess Labour created.

Watch you don't run out of thumbs up

Austerity failed miserably "

Just wondering why you think Austerity is an issue with the British electorate Red or blue !! Elections in 2010 2015 2017 2019 if Austerity was such an issue surely the electorate would of voted against the Tories infact the red wall in 2019 gave Boris a landslide victory because Austerity isn't the issue the left wing keep banging on about its immigration which the Tories failed miserably with and got punished accordingly 6 months ago..truth is both Labour and Conservatives are useless and incompetent with the public purse but as there is no alternative you get lumbered with either or that's the true reality of living in a 2 party system

Because we have a first past the post system. Reform got a higher percentage of the vote than the Lib Dems who gained around 65 seats. Reform's share was 14.3% and Labour 33.7% so there's a huge disparity in seats versus vote share.

Time will tell, thankfully labour have time on their side, no more populist short term solutions, we need sensible long term solutions even if it means a bit of pain before gain

You are joking, three months in after two months of negative economic growth we find out the new chancellor has a fake CV

And our Angela nvq level 2 sign language aka the thickest in Westminster has been told by councils building her flagship 1.5 million new homes is not possible.

The economy went up 0.2 % in August , down 0.1 % in September and October, so it’s 0% over that time frame , btw it was 0% in June and July as well

Business confidence down, four consecutive months July - Oct

Inflation up 1.7 - 2.3%

Starmers three months talking economy down -

Self fulfilling prophecy

The effects of the budget have yet to be felt in the figures but we will find out if the budget helped or not in the coming month's. Early reports from big and small businesses are not positive but hopefully they have it wrong. Hopefully the ONS also has it wrong about the long term growth not improving despite that being the stated aim of the chancellor

The next year or maybe 2 should show an increase in the economy due to the amount of public money being pumped in. Unfortunately after that it is predicted to drop back to where it would have been anyway, maybe even lower. If the spike in the next year or 2 is not as significant as hoped or worse still does not occur then we will be in the smelly stuff. I see why they have watered down the pledge to be the fastest growing economy in the G7

I agree about how it can cause instability and have mentioned it on several posts in the past. At that time it was only Italy in the past that was a good example of it not working. Most of the other countries were fine until recently. I would not say it is just reform voters calling for it. Even on these threads there has been lots posts from non reform people also saying that PR is better, though it's true they were saying it when the Tories were in office and not since. Of course PR has been the big thing for the lib dems for many years as well
