They never did this when I was younger.I was expected to go in every single day of winter.Even if I did slide off the pavement

Have we become soft or is this a wise decision?

Soft! I remember the days when the insides of the windows were iced up, you put on an extra layer

in the sticks

Can remember doing a paper round in about 8 inches of snow, roads were clear then going to school

Was it around 84, or 85?

I went to work on Tuesday, yet they shut schools, most likely due to heating costs, then blame health + safety.

Yet if you don't send your brat to school they will fine you. Do as I say, not what I do springs to mind.

Health and safety and risk assessment etc etc. The threat of parents suing is huge. And not just a threat. Parents do it. Any excuse

There's the problem, the blame culture. Remember when you tripped up, scuffed your knee and your parents DIDN'T try and sue someone???

Ready brek. Feed them Ready brek, the gruel of the 20th century. Rugby in the snow even if you couldn't see the touch lines under the snow.

Pre fab huts double maths with dodgy heating if at all. Snowball fight after school, Rhubarb n Custard on tele, Errr Jimmy Saville on TOTP's.

Snow used to last for weeks.

Looks like this winters going to be a hard one.

It is pathetic.

Closing schools has a huge economic impact as parents of younger children usually have to stay home to look after the kids.

This isn’t taken into account when the decision is made to close schools.

One snow day I remember, I used it to go watch superman the movie.

Loved a snow day, and my parents still went to work, those were the days.
