Starmer’s World Tour

Since becoming PM in July, Starmer has taken 14 international trips at taxpayers’ expense.

Now we all know that Labour love a freebie, but isn’t this just taking the piss?

The government keeps lecturing everyone about the “climate emergency”, and say they are providing “global leadership” on the issue.

But once again looks like one rule for them, and another rule for the plebs.

It's part of his job I'd have thought e.g. all other world leaders are at the G20 summit in Rio. I doubt he enjoys the jetlag much.

He seems to attend meetings that nobody else bothers going to, like COP29.

I’m surprised that a climate alarmist such as yourself is so keen to defend Starmer’s unnecessary carbon emissions.

Yes Starmer’s government definitely seems to have considered COP29 to be more important than anyone else.

Not a fan of Starmer, but surely all new PMs spend a bit of time being around and meeting other world leaders. The meetings all look like legitimate travel to me. I also hate football, but even I can see that the PM should be seen to turn up if England gets into the final.

There's a lot to attack Starmer on, but this doesn't seem to be a line worth following.

I don’t think the prime minister should be meeting other world leaders at all really.Should be for the foreign secretary or ambassadors

Only those that we share a crown with should he visit

That being said I don’t like the idea of this foreign secretary going out there.I think his worldview is being shattered

I would even bet that before he leaves office Lammy will justify some colonial era atrocity

In shock news, PM attends meetings in other countries as part of his role as the leader of the government.

He seems to attend meetings that nobody else bothers going to, like COP29.

I’m surprised that a climate alarmist such as yourself is so keen to defend Starmer’s unnecessary carbon emissions.

COP29 is important.

Understanding climate science isn't being a "climate alarmist".

Yes Starmer’s government definitely seems to have considered COP29 to be more important than anyone else.

Officials attending COP29 by country:

UK 470

US 405

Germany 325

Such shocking damage to the planet.

What's the damage to the planet compared to say, not transitioning off fossil fuels for electricity generation?

I’m sure those 470 taxpayer funded UK officials flying to Azerbaijan have made all the difference.

So you don't know, it's just rhetoric.

Anyway, if climate science isn't real, what does it matter who flies where?

It doesn’t matter to me at all, save for the obvious waste of taxpayers money to no end.

I would have thought a climate alarmist would quite alarmed by it all.

If it doesn't matter at all, why do you keep mentioning it?

I never met a climate alarmist so wouldn't know what they'd think.

I think Starmer would do better to take a stand.

“We in the UK believe that fighting the climate crisis is existential. So we are no longer going to send anyone to international conferences about it. We have ambassadors in-country who can attend, and can make our experts available to attend online”.

Why should he do that if climate science isn't real? Doesn't matter who flies where or when.

That’s the problem.

You say that the climate crisis is existential.

But if it were, tens of thousands of people wouldn’t be flying around the world every year for some free food and board and a few goodie bags.

Just to be clear, your argument that climate science isn't real is based on people taking flights?

You know you could just spend a small amount of time to read about it and understand? It would take way less time than you currently spend denying its happening.

I’m saying that climate science is very real and I’d like the UK government to act like it is."

Well done you for not making it personal ....

Starmer has now been cosying up to Xi on the latest leg of his world tour.

The Uyghur genocide, once a Labour favourite, is long forgotten. Starmer talks glowingly of a new rapprochement with China.

Xi happily reads out press releases prepared by the UK government.

But it’s a match made in heaven. Aside from the sneaking admiration that many Western governments now have for the way China runs things, the UK desperately needs to buy lots of Chinese stuff to achieve its net zero goals.

And China is happy to have the UK turn itself into another Chinese economic colony.

I agree, and I think frustration on action comes from a lack of honesty from governments. Completely removing oil would be economically disastrous, and leaders know this. But instead of clearly communicating the necessary milestones for a gradual and realistic transition, they make vague promises, which fuels public mistrust in their commitment.
