It appears that Alison Pearson the Telegraph journalist must have misheard what the police officers said to her according to the officers bodycam footage.

"Where can I find the footage?

So what makes you sure she misheard?"

The fact that the police have reported the Telegraph to the independent press standards organisation makes me think the footage backs up their version.

Do you think they'll share the footage with IPSO?

You haven't explained anything.

If the complaint isn't upheld then it would be the police who have failed.

Unless you know the outcome already, you probably should wait and see.

The police have lodge a complaint on the reporting, at no point have they said anyone was lying.

For clarity Pearson said:

"she was told by the police who came to her home it was over a “non-crime hate incident”.

The police say:

the officer stated that the complaint had "gone down as an incident or offence of potentially inciting racial hatred online".

I think it is reasonable to get the statement from the police mixed up with what she said she was told, it is coming down to semantics to move this way from the poorly managed incident.

I don't think it's reasonable for a journalist from a national newspaper to publish her misunderstanding and then go around various news media channels repeating the line.

If it was a misunderstanding she would not have known until the recording was made available to her.

According to the officers bodycam footage she wasn't told it was a non crime.

“At no stage during the short interaction between the woman and our officers was she informed that the report being investigated was being treated as a non-crime hate incident. To suggest otherwise is wholly inaccurate and misleading.

“As the public would expect, we have body worn video of this interaction which entirely supports our position in this respect.”
