TRUMP what next?

So what can we expect from a Trump administration? Ranting and bombast for sure, but what about policies? Trump claims he'll end the war in Ukraine before he's inaugurated. Great, but at what price? If he throws Ukraine under the bus what does that mean for the West and the US role on the world stage? Will a self-centred, inward facing US accelerate a new world order? (probably inevitable anyway).

He and his party have been planning for this. Expect less chaos and a more focused approach to whatever it is that they want to achieve.

There is also a clear Republican path for legislation through the house and senate, which is something the US has sorely needed.

It will be much more productive. Whether or not people like that productivity, on the other hand, depends largely on their identity politics and values.

So they have the process figured out, what are the policies and goals?

In terms of Ukraine I expect he will do the following:

1. Put pressure on China to get Putin to the negotiating table. Putin might listen to Trump but he can’t be seen to deal with him on Ukraine without looking weak. He may even try and leverage N Korea to withold military suport in return for easing some sanctions;

2. Try and get Zelensky to concede Crimea and Donbas, though Zelensky’s hands are tied by the ultra-nationalists who control the militias that make up a large proportion of his army so that may not be possible;

3. Tie military aid to increased NATO spending with the message to Europe of they need to step up and invest in self-defence and relying less on US military spending in return for the US shoring up Ukraine and the eastern flank.

4. In return for a last push to end this war he will want a very large slice of the reconstruction pie as UN money floods into a post-war Ukraine.

Did you see the German Govt is on brink of collapse and there will probably be an election early next year ? A new Government there might join Trump in pushing for a 'settlement' in Ukraine.

He says America first, but watch this space... it'll be Israel first then America 2nd as like it's always been with every elected president (then the UK follows what America says creating hatred for us around the world)

Any solid basis or reasoning for that prediction? Or just “they might”?

He promised a lot of stuff, but was extremely light on any detail. He's going to end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. How? No fucking clue.

Probably his scariest promise is to roll back environmental protections, and to start propping up the fossil fuels industry even more, pumping as much CO2 into the atmosphere as possible.

It will be arms industry first. Doesn't give a fuck about Israel unless they're buying more missiles.

He promised basically the same as before.

Tax breaks for the rich (IE himself).

Spunk more billions on the pointless wall.

Destroy the environment for profit.

Erode women's rights.

More culture wars, blaming various minority groups. (Some people on here are already enthused about an increase in transphobic attitudes).

It’s the only compromise now

NATO could have put 500 jets up on 22 February 2022 and taken Russia on, but did not.

Nato have promised alot and not delivered what is needed. Zelenskiy could have done no more on his own without more western backing. It’s both empowering and saddening to see how well the Ukrainians have done with so little

The only option now is a deal. Same for Putin.

He said he would erode press freedoms.

And, representing the party of law and order (despite being a convicted criminal himself), said he would pardon some of those who rooted at the Capitol this time four years ago.

Tbf, do think he will? He is full of bullshit, he said a lot before 2016 and did very little, he is older and more feeble now, I can see him just playing golf

I don't know. He's also extremely incompetent, as evidenced by his disastrous career in business.

His net worth is around $7 billion.

It’s gone up about $300 million in the last couple of days.

Maybe you should offer him some of your expert advice.

He inherited his money, bankrupt six businesses, committed multiple counts of fraud. Would have more money if he had invested in a high interest account with his inheritance instead of going into business.

Disaster.

However you make a good point about why he wanted to be president. $$$yet America voted him over Harris they didn’t believe in the dems policies he got more votes of women blacks Muslims and 18/45 yrold a than he did 4yrs ago

I don't know how this post relates to Trumps disastrous business career."

it relates to trump as much as putin keeping land he’s won

"So what can we expect from a Trump administration? Ranting and bombast for sure, but what about policies? Trump claims he'll end the war in Ukraine before he's inaugurated. Great, but at what price? If he throws Ukraine under the bus what does that mean for the West and the US role on the world stage? Will a self-centred, inward facing US accelerate a new world order? (probably inevitable anyway).

He also said he'd go after elements of the judiciary that have invested his crimes and alleged crimes.

He said he would erode press freedoms.

That’s one of the few things he was clear on … drill drill drill.

"He and his party have been planning for this.

He promised basically the same as before.

Tax breaks for the rich (IE himself).

Spunk more billions on the pointless wall.

Destroy the environment for profit.

Erode women's rights.

More culture wars, blaming various minority groups. (Some people on here are already enthused about an increase in transphobic attitudes)."

Yeah that captures it pretty well

"In terms of Ukraine I expect he will do the following:

1. Put pressure on China to get Putin to the negotiating table. Putin might listen to Trump but he can’t be seen to deal with him on Ukraine without looking weak. He may even try and leverage N Korea to withold military suport in return for easing some sanctions;

2. Try and get Zelensky to concede Crimea and Donbas, though Zelensky’s hands are tied by the ultra-nationalists who control the militias that make up a large proportion of his army so that may not be possible;

So putin wins and keeps the land he invaded

That may have to be the only unpallatable compromise that stops this dragging into a years long war of attrition.

Fair enough, won’t stop him invading somewhere else in the future then "

Absolutely. Will encourage him to do so

Whether for the better or for the worse, I think that this administration will be more focused on it's agenda (Project 2025) than the previous Trump administration which appeared to be a little taken aback at having won in 2016.

White women voted overwhelmingly after white men. Black women who voted for Trump is a number that can't be compared. Less people voted than last time. And just because non white people voted for Trump, it just shows that there are those who have wrongly believed that Trump cares for them. We have seen the racism and misogyny that has been spilling over since the election results. Those non white people and white women who voted for him, know already that they have messed up. I wouldn't have voted for Harris because she won't acknowledge the G that's happening and I would never vote for a man like Trump.
