Part way through Rogan’s interview with JD Vance.

Typically for Rogan it’s a long one at three hours.

But Vance is pretty eloquent and relatable. Very down to earth. I suspect this is where Trump and Vance have a big advantage over Harris/Walz.

All the democrats needed to do was put up any articulate, charismatic, 40-65 year old person, with a clean record and a nice smile.

Instead they put up an already unpopular person, whose sole poll bump was from being "not senile", whose core argument is "I'm not Trump".

So now it's a race.

The Democratic Party and left wing media do all the heavy lifting for Trump. If they just ignored him entirely, gave no oxygen to his shenanigans and focused on the positives of Kamala's campaign (can anyone even name any?), then it would be a much easier fight for them.

How come this tactic works for Trump and the right wing media, just constantly slagging off Kamala and Biden?

Whomever the candidate would have been, the media would have gone for them.

Just look at the attacks Harris received for the tone of her laugh.

The Democrats have messed up their response to Trump right from the start.

Instead of the Russia Collusion hoax, falsely framing him as a fascist, trying to put him in jail, and generally losing their minds because they lost in 2016, all of which has backfired on them massively, all they really needed to do was say “yeah Donald, he’s an American icon, great businessman and media star, we all love him, but you know what we just disagree on policy and here’s why”.

Because Trump is playing by different rules. He can say something one day, and the exact opposite the day after, and no one will bat an eyelid. No one expects him to be consistent, or to make sense.

On the other side, Kamala is still trying to fight like a politician, focusing on policies and moral character. If she just completely ignored Trump, smiled a lot, and kept asserting that America will be better when she's in charge, she'd be a lot higher in the polls.

Obama won two elections easily as a black candidate. I'm sure a strong female candidate could also be successful.

If the media had been more honest about Biden's mental decline the Dems would be in a much stronger position with a better candidate. Harris is often an embarrassment in her public appearances - she was booed at her own rally this week!

Kamala is neither charismatic nor articulate.

Biden is not 40-65.

As to the media, Trump (specifically) is nothing without notoriety. It's the aggression that makes him notorious.

For some who has had an assassination attempt on them it would be pretty reckless of them to say that any political opposition should have a firing squad lined up against them….

And yet this is exactly what Donald Trump did with regards to Liz Cheney just last night

We should also say that Kamala hasn't lost yet ! The polls predcting a Trump win are still within the margin of error.

I just hope that if Harris wins the Republicans get control of Congress to temper Harris’s wackier policy inclinations.

She is pretty far left herself in so far as she actually believes anything, but tends to go with whatever she thinks might be popular at the time, so will be easy prey for the wilder elements of her own party.

Because when they got it wrong in the last 2 election cycles.. the polls that were considered “right leaning “ were the ones closest to the actual results… this time most polls actually reflect that

Actually I am not worried for “big 10 country” Michigan or Wisconsin for Harris…it’s where Harris could snatch one of the others basically because of potential republican civil wars in Georgia and Arizona … and the shambles/scandals with the republican candidate for governor in North Carolina

Here is another little titbit coming from the 7 battleground states…

In early voting so far , women have outvoted men roughly 55-45

Women have outvoted men in every one of the battleground states since 1980

Basically Trump has to win “men” by a larger number than Harris has to win “women”…

Last time this was polled… Trump was winning “men” by 7… Harris was winning “women” by 16

I thought they had made friends in Georgia.

Rumour was that Harris has pulled some serious media spend in NC, probably because they think it’s a waste of money. Or maybe the Dems have blown that billion already!

I'm surprised more hasn't been said about 2020 having such high postal votes due to Covid, which definitely favoured Biden, and whether the reduction in postal votes (though higher than 2016) will affect the result ?

Trump was very anti postal voting in 2020 but has embraced it more this time - could that make a difference,?

Just a mistake by the channel getting ready to broadcadt the results come the time but will definitely fuel some conspiracy theories lol

They have some crazy local variations too. I don't buy Trump's conspiracy nonsense but a lot of their voting systems are definitely open to abuse.

"The Democrats have messed up their response to Trump right from the start.

Some amazing comedy in here "great businessman".

"It's good to get more people voting, though I don't understand the American lefts issue with bringing ID to vote

Because voting fraud is already very minimal… for example, the trump campaign like to talk about rampant fraud in Georgia of all the votes the republicans who ran the elections found a grand total of 9 cases

In Arizona, where Trump campaign were claiming rampant fraud.. they even got the state party to organise 3 different hand counts … when that wasn’t enough, they organised for their own private firms to come in and do a hand count… the result of that count? Bidens victory margin went up by 200!

In Michigan where the Trump campaign claimed rampant fraud, the eventual ended up find 5 cases of voter fraud, and 4 of them were Trump supporters who had voted twice!

They are bring in legislation for a problem that doesn’t actually exist! Case in point, last week in Pennsylvania, there was a rumour of rampant voter fraud where in one county they had 55 people registered to vote from the same house.. and there is no way that could be true…

And this story was lighting up right wing media.. caught them!!!!

One slight tiny problem…. The house in question? No one had gone to see it..

It was a nunnery!!!!!! And all 55 god bless those nuns were all alive and well!!!!

Anyway.. the other reason is that minorities and the poorer folk are less likely to have the required ID ….

On the other hand hasn’t Youngkin just won a case in the Supreme Court about voter registration in Virginia?

Plus isn’t there something actually happening in Pennsylvania right now where three DA’s are investigating a company in Arizona that is submitting thousands of voter registrations the majority of which are fake?

It seems unlikely in a vast country like the US that there is absolutely no voter fraud. I imagine there is in most countries.

Aren’t the vast majority of Americans in favour of showing voter ID? It’s just the Democrats who don’t like it, pretty much the same as Labour in the UK. Odd that.

The Republicans do seem to be being a little more proactive this time around. But no doubt both sides have got hordes of lawyers lined up for next week.

Trump now 4/6 on betting markets, Harris 6/4.

Trump alleged fraudulent activities on different aspects of the process not simply miscounting or someone voting on another's behalf, which is what most people consider to be in contention.

That last reason is odd

What id is required? I'd imagine a driver's license. Or your social security number maybe

How expensive is it to get your driver's ID?

Just wanted to separate what I wrote originally from what you are about to argue and embarrass yourself with by only half hearing a case and running with it….

"On the other hand hasn’t Youngkin just won a case in the Supreme Court about voter registration in Virginia? "

Not quite… Virginia wanted to scrub people off the voting list… federal law states that you can do this, but not within 90 days of a federal election… the Supreme Court allowed Virginia to do this only because Virginia has in place same day registration, so if the us citizens that were wrongly purged off the list.. (and CNN and local tv outlets have confirmed that there are a lot of these…) they can still go and vote!
"

Plus isn’t there something actually happening in Pennsylvania right now where three DA’s are investigating a company in Arizona that is submitting thousands of voter registrations the majority of which are fake?

"

No! This is a case of county election officials actually doing their job properly! Where batches of voters registrations come in… from groups on BOTH sides sign up people to help them with voter registration.. the county put them to one side and investigate and confirm.. for example using DMV information to cross check, electro or gas customers records ect….
"

It seems unlikely in a vast country like the US that there is absolutely no voter fraud. I imagine there is in most countries. "

I never said the answer was zero… but for example, again in Georgia they were mandated by the state legislature to do another voter registration check in time for this election… of the 6 million voters they checked… they tossed 9! …. 4 for double entry, 5 for people that had passed away and had not been taken off the record properly…

"

Aren’t the vast majority of Americans in favour of showing voter ID? It’s just the Democrats who don’t like it, pretty much the same as Labour in the UK. Odd that. "

Not if it is specifically being done and aimed at marginalising certain groups of people to not have certain types of ID.. for example the poorest or minorities (states could not do what they do now until SCOTUS gutted the civil rights act taking out those protections… it was basically gerrymandering by the back door)
"

The Republicans do seem to be being a little more proactive this time around. But no doubt both sides have got hordes of lawyers lined up for next week.

"

They are trying to get as many votes tossed and making it harder for votes to get counted…

For example going back to Pennsylvania.. the republicans want all mail in ballots tossed if the people have forgotten to sign them…. Then they wanted all mail in ballots tossed if they didn’t come back in the special envelope…. And yesterday scotus rejected another case where the Pennsylvania GOP wanted all mail in ballots to if they had a simple “date error” for example people put October or December instead of November… oh people looking forward put 25 on the ballot rather than 24

I'm rather surprised a Maths graduate doesn't understand how betting markets work and self correct.

If large bets move the market in one direction this opens up opportunities for those wishing to bet the other way as the odds are larger than statistical probability says they should be. This is very rare in betting markets where the odds are usually shorter than the actual probability- this is how betting companies make their profit margin.

If Harris' actual chance of victory is at least 50/50 then people should be piling into that market to back her at 6/4. But they aren't (yet) which is odd. On paper is this is one of the best bets you'll ever see.

I know how betting markets work.. it’s to try and get roughly the same amount of money on both sides…. Which is why if you get huge bets on one side, it manipulates the market!

Plus as you have been told before…. If people inside the us are legally not allowed to bet on federal elections, and the market you are looking at is strictly what people think outside the USA… do you not notice the disconnect?

Time for predictions!

As I said in first thread I think Trump will lose popular vote but win on electoral college.

I expect him to win Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania to get past 270 seats. Possibly Nevada too.

Popular vote I predict 48/47 to Harris.

The odds on Trump winning the election but losing the Popular vote (as he did in 2016) are a generous 13/8 so I'll be investing some beer money there.

Let's hope for a fair fight and clear result either way. 🇺🇲

Well it will show that the people of America have at least some level of common sense not to vote for Harris who has no clear plan what she would do. Regarding Sadiq Khan people can't tell me why they voted for him for the third time knowing since his time as Mayor has been poor after 8 years with crime up, housing targets low, London transport unreliable, road being blocked off unnecessary when London needs to moving, living costs in London too high and as for Labour well they clearly screwed people with the budget which will hurt most people down the line but anyways let's move on

"Well it will show that the people of America have at least some level of common sense not to vote for Harris who has no clear plan what she would do. Regarding Sadiq Khan people can't tell me why they voted for him for the third time knowing since his time as Mayor has been poor after 8 years with crime up, housing targets low, London transport unreliable, road being blocked off unnecessary when London needs to moving, living costs in London too high and as for Labour well they clearly screwed people with the budget which will hurt most people down the line but anyways let's move on"

You prefer Americans to vote for someone who sexually abuses women?

Seems unlikely but because the polls are so close if one candidate does just a couple of points better than predicted they could win all the swing states and have a comfortable victory.

Yes good point. I guess I am thinking that the swing states will all be pretty close. But if they all go the same way, then one or 'tuther will smash it.

John Fetterman is on the Rogan podcast

Being the dedicated right winger Joe is (according to the mentally challenged) I'm sure he'll be awful to him

Or maybe he'll just talk to him like a human being like he does anyone who comes on his show

Odd that

New poll has Harris ahead in Iowa, one of Trump's 'safe' states, although other polls put him well ahead there.

As well as the 7 'swing states' there are several others where Trump or Harris only lead by 5 or 6% in polls. Could still be some big surprises on the Tuesday !

From a nationalistic standpoint what does the outcome mean for the UK? Trump is unpredictable but seems UK friendly, whereas previous Democratic presidents, Obama and Biden have been chippy towards the UK. Will we maintain a 'special relationship' or is that just a fallacy anyway?

Yes, both Biden and Obama seemed to hate UK for personal reasons while Trump has his family connection to Scotland. Would be good to finally get a trade deal with US.

Don't know about Obama, but Biden thinks he's Irish, and has been oppressed by the British.

My point is that Biden thinks he's Irish, and so feels an enormous resentment against the British for things that he thinks they did to his people. Because of that he has said several times that he doesn't like the British, in interviews, and on camera.

Agreed, those candidates that aren't claiming to be Italian, all claim to have Irish ancestry.

But Biden defines himself thorough his Irish roots, putting Irish heritage above all other things. Despite the fact that half of his ancestors were English (technically, so were the other half), and that he's a fourth generation American, he still insists that he's Irish first and foremost.

He hasn't?

He famously refused to answer a BBC journalist saying "BBC? I'm Irish.", and walking off. He said he visited Northern Ireland at one point “to make sure the Brits didn’t screw around” with the peace process. He also said "The background of my family is Irish American, and we have a long history not fundamentally unlike the Palestinian people, with Great Britain and their attitude toward Irish Catholics over the years for 400 years.".

"Part way through Rogan’s interview with JD Vance.

Typically for Rogan it’s a long one at three hours.

But Vance is pretty eloquent and relatable. Very down to earth. I suspect this is where Trump and Vance have a big advantage over Harris/Walz.

"

rogan puts a fly in the ointment after giving trump a free pass, by destroying vance on his podcast interview ....

.... s'pose that won't make a difference to the militants on either persuasion though.

interesting about the poll in Iowa, especially considering that Selzer is by far and away the most respected pollster in the state and has an absolutely stellar record .... it appears to show a monumental surge of women driving the result statewide .... perhaps being replicated nationwide on tuesday.

neither do I. but i do think that the americans know the uk is a small market and perhaps there are larger markets to win first. plus they are historically more invested in south east asia and europe since 1945 and are still making huge returns for their post war funding. where as they have merely exploited a weak UK for the last 80 years, so they have zip desire to alter the status quo.

That won’t happen… at 10pm you may start getting little nuggets of information from the exit polls to give people an understanding as to what may happen… but the earliest states don’t close voting until 7pm eastern time…. Which is midnight our time

The west coast states don’t finish voting till 8pm pacific.. 4am our time

"Last couple of days campaigning, should get first results about 10pm our time Tuesday. Full election result will take several days but early ones should give a good idea of voting trend.

That won’t happen… at 10pm you may start getting little nuggets of information from the exit polls to give people an understanding as to what may happen… but the earliest states don’t close voting until 7pm eastern time…. Which is midnight our time

The west coast states don’t finish voting till 8pm pacific.. 4am our time "

Are the US exit polls as accurate as the ones in the UK?

It's strange how polls seem to be getting less reliable - you'd think technology and experience would make them better.

Last UK election they were consistently giving Labour 40+ % of the vote they ended up on less than 34%, that's a massive error. Be no surprise to see them get the US election completely wrong too.

In the exit polls you are basically going to find out a lot of things …. Except who they actually voted for

So you will find out who voted.. men women young old ect.. and what issues were most important to them

Polls can and are used to deter voters as well as encourage. If polls have a party / candidate way out in front it can keep the casual voter indoors, as they believe the win is inevitable and not worth their effort.

Pesky pollers

Yes, last UK election had very low turnout didn't it ? I suspect will be opposite in US with lot of undecided only choosing who to vote for on the day. They will probably decide the election.

I think in some respects Republican husbands expect and demand their wives vote Republican. So when polsters ask they say "Republican".

However, once in the privacy of the voting booth, the irritation about the abortion issues, women's rights, etc start to impact and the women, who outnumber male voters, start to tick Democrat.

...given the fact that in the midterms, when abortion was on the ballot, even in deep red states, the republicans invariably lost. They're now going around saying that abortion isn't an important issue for voters...who do they think they're kidding?..

Add to that,Trump is now saying he's going to "protect " women whether they like it or not,and tucker saying that he wants to "vigorously spank" 15 yr old girls while the call him daddy...hahaha...its not really a great closing message for Trump...weird people

"

But I personally don't think any of them hate Britain.

neither do I. but i do think that the americans know the uk is a small market and perhaps there are larger markets to win first. plus they are historically more invested in south east asia and europe since 1945 and are still making huge returns for their post war funding. where as they have merely exploited a weak UK for the last 80 years, so they have zip desire to alter the status quo."

Some American corporations donated to various Brexit campaigns in the hopes we would remove food safety standards, environmental standards etc that the EU has that stops some trade. But seeing as that's not happening fast enough, the US won't bother prioritising a relatively small market like the UK.

Does seen like a bit of an urban myth that one. In 2016 the polls hugely underestimated Trump - was that Dem wives lying to their husbands ?

Strange thing about abortion rights as an election issue is that Roe vs Wade was overturned under Biden ! As its a Supreme Court decision I can't see how Harris would be able to change that except by packing the Court with new appointments, an unprecedented constitutional step.

All Presidents appoint Supreme Court Justices in line with their politics but they can only appoint a new justice when an existing one dies or retires. Trump appointed three pro Republican justices, Obama had appointed three pro Democrats.

Two pro Democrat judges died aged 79 and 87 under Trump. If they'd retired under Obama then Roe v Wade would never have been overturned.

That’s a huge reach!!!

roe vs wade was overturned in effect because of the 3 Supreme Court justices trump chose!

Basically it was assumed the norm was that roe vs wade would basically apply federally… what the 3 justices did in the dobbs case is that roe vs wade only applied to roe vs wade and because abortion wasn’t an original constitutional issue.. it would be decided by each state

So trump thought in his political objectives and best interests was to take a victory lap saying he was the one to get rid of it.. even though 70/30 of people were for keeping roe vs wade in place

So republicans and Trump have been taking the consequences of it ever since

What Harris could do if democrats win the house (probably) and retain the senate ( which is more challenging) if they could basically codify the working of roe vs wade into federal law

....as a matter of fact kauanagh, gorsuch, and coney Barrett said at their hearings that roe v wade was precedent...they in fact lied
