"The Chancellor states on her LinkedIn that she was working as an “economist” at HBOS. This is not true. Guido can reveal that Reeves worked in a mundane support department at the bank, according to multiple former colleagues. Within the Halifax/HBOS Complaints team there was a small support unit which managed administration processes, IT matters, and small projects and planning. It was a team of three people far from the Economics Department. Reeves held a mid-level position. HBOS was acquired by Lloyds in 2009 and the Chancellor left in December of that year to pursue a career in politics Seems she's suited to politics then 🤔 " guido fawkes! Interesting to learn what you read. Fair play for being so open.

Think there might be some pensioners in the complaints Que, well the ones that make it through the winter

" Bet the next figure in April will bet a sugar coating of another Labour mess, like 1978. Starmer reminds me of Callaghan but more slippery and cunning. " 'No chaos here' declares Callaghan The Prime Minister, James Callaghan, has flown back into strike-torn Britain denying allegations the country is in chaos. Mr Callaghan told reporters at London airport he would not be declaring a state of emergency - and he dismissed suggestions the country was facing an industrial crisis. BBC. 10 January 1979

"No fan of Boris Johnson. I do find it strange that he saw a cake in the office and he was hounded out of office by the media/political establishment and, the chancellor Rachel Reeves lied, plagiarised and faked her cv to get where she is & the media/politicians aren’t interested." Of course the cake wasn't why he resigned was it ?

"This touches on a real problem with UK politics in that very few MPs have 'real' experience in the workplace. Most come direct from Uni hustings to research posts and then on MP shortlists. In essence, their skillset is oratory and not much besides." Not unique to UK politics

"She criticised the Tories for raising employer NI, then is likely to do it herself so she's open to criticism in spades" The UK tax gap in 2022 to 2023 was estimated to be 4.8% of total theoretical tax liabilities, or £39.8 billion in absolute terms, which means HMRC collected 95.2% of all tax due. (HMRC own figs) Starmer and Reeves are missing this from their narrative, there’s enough uncollected tax to fill two of Rachels black holes every year Surely collecting uncollected tax should be a priority over raising costs for employers, which will be self defeating, reducing their profits and own taxes.

" Did they say why it was not collected? Seems like a lot of money to ignore. Is it including money that people move overseas to avoid tax or people just late paying what they owe, maybe like the self employed? I just do a standard job on PAYE so tax is taken automatically and tax on purchases is automatic so not sure how I or most people would be part of that figure. I do have an ISA though and take advantage of the tax free money on bank savings so possibly that is part of it. Hope they don't change them
