Around 10 million pensioners will lose their winter fuel payments under new plans announced by the chancellor.

From this autumn, those not on pension credit or other means-tested benefits will no longer get the payments.

A planned cap on social care costs and several major rail and road projects have also been axed.

Ms Reeves said she had to make "urgent decisions" because of the previous government's "undisclosed" overspending, but shadow chancellor Jeremy Hunt said her claims were “spurious”.

Thoughts?

Let's call it what it is = a stealth tax on those that worked to secure some comfort in their retirement years. Expect more of the same from Labour. Much more.

To be fair, its probably long overdue that some sort of cap was introduced. There's a retiree on state pension who's worked in logistics and manufacturing all their life, and then there some establishment stooge at the BBC leaving a £300,000 a year salary and who has a nice private pension...

Less than £12500 Is probably a little low bit if it's affecting 10,000,000 pensioners then 1/8 of our population is retired? That can't be right?

Or let's call it what it actually is, a bribe to the only part of the population who still vote Tory. I think something should be done so that people on / near the threshold aren't pushed into poverty.

It's not a tax on pensioners, it's sorting out the mess that the Tories left behind
