Failure after failure

The National Audit Office (NAO) assessment of how ministers’ plans were progressing found the government had failed to meet any of the 12 “high level benefit” targets it set for rail in 2021.

You have to remember that government is not just the MP's we elect. It's the unelected cretins and well connected upper class folk who are equally to blame for the screw ups.

I agree with most you say but the government is ultimately responsible to it's people, but yes there are other forces at work that influence issues and it needs addressing for democracy to turly work.

This country (England), or rather this group of countries (Little Britain, The United Kingdom etc) made 2 huge mistakes.

Beeching was one of them.

The other was turning our backs on steam power.

You think we should still be using steam power, with all the fossil fuel usage that it requires?

Beexhing’s cuts were horrendous, though could have been managed by replacing cut-off services with other forms of local transport.

As for turning out backs on Steam, we were already far too late in moving away from it when we did (on the railways at least).
