British soldiers are “on the ground” in Ukraine helping Kyiv’s forces fire long-range Storm Shadow missiles, according to a leak in Russian media of a top-secret call involving German air force officers.

During the conversation, Lt Gen Ingo Gerhartz, the head of the Luftwaffe, describes how Britain works with Ukraine on deploying Storm Shadow missiles against targets up to 150 miles behind Russian lines.

“When it comes to mission planning,” the German commander says, “I know how the English do it, they do it completely in reachback. They also have a few people on the ground, they do that, the French don’t.”

Tobias Ellwood, a former UK junior defence minister, said the leak was embarrassing to Berlin, although he told the BBC that Russia probably knew about the British presence given the intensity of its espionage activities

Now it’s out of the bag is Russia ready for wider escalation.

Still waiting on that magic nuke that would wipe the UK off the map. Exactly who do you think survivors of a nuclear war are going to eat first? Honestly...

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

This is only news because it's now mainstream. Russia has been saying for over a year that American and British special forces and technicians are on the ground helping to plan operations, strikes and the handling of air defense systems like the Patriot.

No western leader would confirm this to maintain plausible deniability. That's no longer possible.

So what? Russia knew, we guessed it, It's a handful of technicals and they are unlikely to be in the trenches.

I suspect Russia's improvement in war effort in the last few months is because China, Iran and India are on the ground helping them. They also have a huge number of foreign mercenaries. Some from Nepal like our Gurkas.

Putin has tried very hard not to affect Moscow by recruiting from the moscovites.

That’s interesting. What are your sources as I’d like to know more.

BBC/ITV had a news item from Nepal where they interviewed the relatives of the Nepalese soldiers who had died and not been paid by Russia.

Wagner group have been recruiting in Africa for Russia for Ukraine.

Russian bloggers have been to the East of the country where the porest folk live and I have seen interviews with their relatives. No news, no bodies and no pay. Filtered words but true I believe.

It could all be false propaganda, OR it could be the tip of a truth iceberg. It is war. The first victim of war is the truth. Deny or agree; you have that right. They don't.

This would have been obvious to the Russians a long time ago. It’s not really news and only illustrates that for all Putin’s strong words he is not prepared for an escalation into a broader conflict. His army, navy and air force are being severely depleted by little old Ukraine on a daily basis and there are insufficient reserves to open another front in Ukraine let alone with a fresh adversary.

If anyone is doubting the Russian losses I would suggest following some of the Telegram channels that are featuring raw combat footage from Ukraine. The waves of APC’s and IFV’s loaded inside and on top with infantry are getting blown to pieces daily and Russian manpower losses in February were estimated as around 1,000 soldiers per day by the ISW.

they also had a news item on last week saying ukraine has only lost 30 odd thousand troops since the war started and also hundreds of Palestinians were trampled to death and not shot by the idf while queuing for food, so forgive me for taking with a pinch of salt what the news says

No-one can reasonably say what the Ukrainian losses have been but they are unlikely to be anywhere near the level of Russian losses because of the tactics that each side employs. The Ukrainians are trained by NATO countries and preservation of life is at the heart of their tactics.

Russian tactics are to overwhelm by sheer force of numbers and as such they lose hundreds if not thousands on a daily basis to win tiny morsels of land. An assault of three fully loaded APC’s (with soldiers on top as well), plus tank support and IFV’s can amount to nearing 100 men and you see such columns being completely annihilated every day with only a few stragglers making it back. The same day, or the next day they do the same thing all over again playing the game of “you will run out of ammunition before we run out of soldiers.”

Ukraine has never adopted tactics like this and never will.

"Ukraine war: Zelensky says 31,000 troops killed since Russia's full-scale invasion

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-68397525"

Further down the article...

US officials in August put the number of Ukrainian soldiers killed at 70,000 and as many as 120,000 injured.

Someone didn't get the memo to keep the casualty figures the same.

Unless 39,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been resurrected since August?

Reading between the lines I would put Ukrainian killed possibly as high as 100,000 and Russian losses are very probably not lower than 300,000…. Problem is that for Russians life is considered cheaper than it is by Ukrainians and far far cheaper than we in the West would tolerate. Putin can take 5 million dead and still keep enough of the Russian population on his side to continue aggression.
