"I have been all over Cuba, it is a lovely island, wonderful climate for agriculture and farming. However as the post says there is little in the way of infrastructure or appetite to make things work amongst the people." Is that because decades of economic mismanagement by the govt have caused people to simply give up?

Yes, and they tried to turn things around by removing egalitarianism, rewarding those that worked hard over those that didn't. when I was last there that rule was probably 8 - 9 years in and still not much movement. In Havana there is a level of Entrepreneurship based on tourism, still not great but it exists and speaking to those hustling they can get in and out with relative ease. They could easily grow crops / farm and sustain themselves to such higher levels than they are, but as I mentioned the appetite is low.

It was loosen a little bit under Obama, where Americans were finally allowed legally to go to Cuba, but it was rescinded back again under trump I would argue the loosen of sanctions is the reason the democrats continue to lose in Florida (it’s a third rail issue in south Florida)
