Gove and PPE

Michael Gove failed to register hospitality he enjoyed with a Conservative donor whose company he had recommended for multimillion pound PPE contracts during the Covid pandemic, the Guardian can reveal.

Has he finally been caught out?

Gove is normally very careful, almost clinical with the facts and walks a fine line.

Baroness Mone was a fine example - Gove looked as though he favoured her requests but, was in the clear and this was not the first such instance.

Has he finally slipped up?

...bloody spell check kept changing Gove to Give...

Well PPE was the gift that kept on GIV(E)ing if you were a Tory Party associated VIP

Will make no difference to people who vote Tory. They handed multi million pound contracts to friends, neighbours, party donor's. And they voted for them relentlessly.

. Maybe time to face reality. A specialist internal audit department are already investigating fraud involving Covid loans .

The number one priority of the government was to save lives. They were very successfull in achieving that and now anyome who engaged in illegal activivity will feel the full weight of the law .

Many people worked extremelly hard to obtain the PPE in a highly competitive world market .

Life has moved on. It seems that some posters on here are stuck in a time warp re ppe.

We should be more concerned about the long term cost of covid and the damage to the ecomomy. The economic damage is horrendous . Locks downs were very damaging and probably totally unnecessary

What mistakes?

The Tories funneled public money into the hands of their friends on purpose. It was very successful.

“ Gove enjoyed VIP hospitality at football match with owner of company awarded £164m of contracts after Gove’s referral”

He has been short changed.

There's nothing quite like justifying mendacious and corrupt behaviour with the old and convenient lie, "Those were difficult times and people were trying to save lives".

.

No one falls for that dog-whistle any more do they ?

Well, I didn't think they did

.

Are you advocating breaking the law and financial irregularity / lack of probity if the underlying case is somehow morally defensible? That people should turn a "blind eye" ?

. Can you give any examples of laws which have been broken and a blind eye was turned to it. ? Many people are simply greatfull that the government worked so hard to save so many lives . In their eagerness to help the government probably over recorded Covid deaths and included those who died with not because of Covid . A covid death generally equated to an average loss of life of three months

The financial cost of lockdowns and Covid was horrendous and we will be paying the price for many years to come .

We failed to properly measure / evaluate the cost of saving lives against the long term financial damage .

In answer to the 1st question, The Baroness Mone Saga should be quite a revelation. The Crown have already frozen considerable assets. That is not done without "just cause".

I'm not going to answer the rest of the diatribe because its pure apologism & deflection once again.
