Not sure how successful this plan would work in rescuing palisitinian civilians from being murdered by the idf but well done Egypt for actually doing something.

700,000 Palestinians fled or were forced from their homes in the war surrounding Israel's creation in 1948.

You mean the walled-off area being built?

Yes, that's the one but doesn't look comprehensive

They appear to be working with Israel, to contain the Palestinians while the Israelis clear Rafah. Politically, Egypt needs to talk a tough game, but ultimately has the same aims as Israel. They also flooded Hamas tunnels and want to eradicate Hamas.

How they spin it is going to be interesting. They're currently denying it (mostly). The last thing they want is to absorb Palestinians.

Why is another walled compound needed?

I believe it's because Egypt are worried that some hamas may get into Egypt and attack Isreal.. violating a treaty between Isreal and Egypt.

this is going to be an interesting turn of events, I guess this is extending into Egyptian territory so in theory the IDF wouldn't move into that space.

Who said that? That doesn't seem the likely reason.

My guess at the wall as explained in a paragraph :

"The fear for some is that militants may escape into Egypt from Gaza. And if Hamas were to launch attacks on Israel from Sinai, then the concern becomes that Israel could retaliate with strikes inside Egypt."

But more complications mentioned below ;
