45,649 new homes were completed in the rental and affordable sector last year, up 10% on 2022 and the highest figure ever recorded by National House Building Council (NHBC).

In contrast, local authority housing waiting lists have increased from 1.1million in 2010, to 1.6million.

At this current rate of 45,649, if maintained, it will take 35 years to build enough affordable homes for those on the waiting lists, assuming no more people are added.

Is this a reasonable expectation that Labour can maintain if they win the election.

I would hope they build more and use this new figure as the minimum going forward. Now this figure has been achieved it shows it is possible so a Labour government must improve on it or take the political consequences

I never realised political parties built homes.

Oh yes! Houses, energy, trains! And that’s just the first week!
