Agreed on economy. If you print money, the economy grows. Its not a true reflection

"Anyone remember Ukraine? Has it all gone silent because Ukraine has won? Or is it just that the globalists and media would prefer not to talk about it now it’s clear (as it always should have been) that Ukraine can’t win? Russia’s economy growing at 3.2%. And the UK/Eurozone? Looks like sanctions have been suicidal." So if Ukraine can’t win what is the answer? Give in to Russian aggression? Putin has stated publicly that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a mistake that needs correcting. Give in to Russia over Ukraine and that ground war will start to get an awful lot closer. There is no option but for Europe to stand with Ukraine against Putin.

The technological leap for a pilot converting from (for example) a Sukhoi to an F-16 is absolutely massive and with the amount of Russian anti-aircraft systems on the ground it is completely pointless for anything other than a supremely competent F-16 pilot to take to the air in the combat areas. That mission itself can be instantly deadly if the pilots are not wholly on top of the mission tactic - let alone the complexity of the aircraft and system required for that role.

Point being is that you are ignoring common sense by choosing what you want to believe. Irrespective of the pilots’ very long type-conversions (which is a irrefutable fact) there is an entire monster operation of logistical training for engineers, technicians and air traffic controllers to keep the aircraft safely in the air. An entire industry has to be trained to ensure that a flight of F-16’s (or indeed any new type) can be operated safely, effectively and efficiently. This is not Biggles jumping into a biplane and shouting Tally Ho. lol.

"The Ukrainian city of Avdiivka is in the headlines as the Russians are stepping up their attacks. Avdiivka lies just 23km of the occupied city of Donetsk, which has been occupied since 2014. If after launching the biggest ground invasion since the second world war, you have visually confirmed losses of over 2,000 tanks, 200 aircraft, and god alone knows how many men. After all of that, the city of Avdiivka is still Ukrainian after a year and a half of fighting. Sure, Russia is stepping up its attacks and could well take the city soon. But if it takes them that much to get just 23km, what planet do you live on if you think Russia has won? " It depends on how you define victory?

Some are pro Ukraine and some American ex servicemen. The pro Ukraine people are more critical of Ukrainian strategy to date oddly. It looks very much like a stalemate at present and with bad weather it slows things down. Ukraine can't get through all the well prepared Russian defence lines especially the minefields and Russia although taking ground ever so slowly are using WW1 mass infantry wave after wave type assaults. It gains them a few hundred meters at a time but at colossal cost hence the need to keep recruiting. Every now and then, if possible Ukrainian hit back and retake the newly lost land that Russia lost so many men taking but Ukraine cannot afford the losses in men that Russia can. It's not looking like it will end anytime soon sadly

It depends on how you define victory? " Define it based on what they said at the start. They wanted NATO not to expand. Failure. 23km from Donetsk in a year and a half doesn't sound like winning when you're the global superpower against people you view as brothers.

Looks like sanctions have been suicidal." Are you Russian by any chance ????

"Anyone remember Ukraine? Has it all gone silent because Ukraine has won? Or is it just that the globalists and media would prefer not to talk about it now it’s clear (as it always should have been) that Ukraine can’t win? Russia’s economy growing at 3.2%. And the UK/Eurozone? Looks like sanctions have been suicidal. So if Ukraine can’t win what is the answer? Give in to Russian aggression? Putin has stated publicly that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a mistake that needs correcting. Give in to Russia over Ukraine and that ground war will start to get an awful lot closer. There is no option but for Europe to stand with Ukraine against Putin. Too little too late, where are the migs and f16’s Do you know how long it takes to type-convert military pilots? The technological leap for a pilot converting from (for example) a Sukhoi to an F-16 is absolutely massive and with the amount of Russian anti-aircraft systems on the ground it is completely pointless for anything other than a supremely competent F-16 pilot to take to the air in the combat areas. In my opinion, the F-16’s will not be a game changer and will probably be used primarily to hunt Russian AA systems and knock them out. That mission itself can be instantly deadly if the pilots are not wholly on top of the mission tactic - let alone the complexity of the aircraft and system required for that role. It doesn't take a year so if the west was serious about this it would've been put in place from the word go but no, economic sanctions were the way to go and how effective they've been I can confirm it take that long or longer. My husband was a MH-47 pilot or CH-47. The schooling was 18months on a helicopter. No where near the capability of a f-16. Then add in SEAD operations I don't care if you are a genius it takes time. In which case there's absolutely no point in providing the Ukraine with this in the first place. I choose to believe it doesn't take as long as you suggest Sead operations are a orchestra of carnage. Now throw in learning a new operational system completely different. Then get 4 other pilots on that same page. Would you do it in 5 months or a year to be the best at it? That's my point....it should've been started when the war started What hindsight you possess. Astonishing. I wonder why no-one wise thought of that at the time?" Because they were afraid of the threats of escalation made by Putin. And there's no need for the sarcasm. If you dig out the old threads you'll find I stated this at the start of the war AND that as soon as it started, Russia had already won.

"Broken economies sell cheap, Russia will eventually need to sell cheap to the Chinese, then sell to the USA, a win win for both. Both China and USA want to see a weaker broken Russia, it benefits both." Agreed. China always play the "long game" as in "decades long. Generations long." They are further cementing their dominance in world trade. But you need markets to sell to. They will sit on the fence as usual, until it's clear one side has the upper hand, and that side will be their preferred partner. And they'll still be "friends" with the other side, because that's how they play the game.

Europe is pretty much irrelevant to the war in Ukraine, it wouldn’t survive a few days in a war with Russia. Only the US can keep funding the Ukrainian oligarchs and the US is losing patience already. Why should the US waste billions and face another decades long Afghanistan style humiliation over some strategically irrelevant rubble? Frankly the West hasn’t won a war in decades. Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya. All a disaster. The Ukrainians should have run a mile the second the US told them it would support them to the end. And the average age of the Ukrainian soldier is what, 42? Where have all the younger ones gone?

"God help the rest of Europe if/when Russia decides to try pushing further because the west is soft and has no appetite for war." No appetite for war ? Do you know just how many NATO units are poised and eager to be unleashed in that operational theatre ? There are units actively ready in Romania, Finland, and various other nations, itching to go. Just one deliberate missile, one incursion in to NATO territory, and that's all they need. These units have been there for over a year, and they haven't turned their engines off yet.

"I would suggest that the younger men are dead. These are people who are prepared to fight (unlike the majority of the Afghan males who gave up despite superiority in every area over the Taliban) but they are up against an agressor with far more military might than them. They are pretty much a shield for the west and the west doesn't have the balls to support them. God help the rest of Europe if/when Russia decides to try pushing further because the west is soft and has no appetite for war. Without the much maligned Americans the mighty NATO wouldn't exist. If Ukraine is abandoned as it surely will be, the west can expect a world of shit because China is watching" The reason for the age ststed at 42 is because the mobilisation is 18-60, the average being 42 based on Ukrainian demography. Google the same data for other European countries snd it will be similar Nothing at all to do with fatalities.

Interesting commentary in the Wall Street Journal a couple of days ago on European military preparedness: “The British military—the leading U.S. military ally and Europe’s biggest defense spender—has only around 150 deployable tanks and perhaps a dozen serviceable long-range artillery pieces. So bare was the cupboard that last year the British military considered sourcing multiple rocket launchers from museums to upgrade and donate to Ukraine, an idea that was dropped. France, the next biggest spender, has fewer than 90 heavy artillery pieces, equivalent to what Russia loses roughly every month on the Ukraine battlefield. Denmark has no heavy artillery, submarines or air-defense systems. Germany’s army has enough ammunition for two days of battle”. The EU promised Ukraine 1 million artillery rounds by March 2024 but is now admitting that it can’t reach this target as it can’t manufacture the rounds. Europe just isn’t a serious military player any longer. And the US is losing interest in Ukraine.

"We spent £45.9 billion on defence in the 2021/2022 tax year. Someone is getting rich for doing fuck all." My experience of working for defence projects is that they are ineptly managed, and the vast majority of the money is wasted, with no one ending up getting rich.

" Interesting commentary in the Wall Street Journal a couple of days ago on European military preparedness: " That's the great thing about journalists. You can feed them anything and they'll publish it. . The WSJ would know better than to publish highly sensitive info of this nature unless it had been "cleared" by others. . That tells me all I need to know about the "article". The veneer of having come from the WSJ means nothing. If anything, it's deliberately wrapped, and neither you or I are the intended audience.

" I’m doubtful the information is highly sensitive. I’m sure it’s readily available from other sources if one can be bothered to look. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Europe’s military capability is a shambles. Given that the West’s military interventions over the past few decades have been one fiasco after another I’m just amazed that there are still people around who a) believe anything Western governments say about the need for intervention and b) think the West is going to win anything.
