Why we will always be at War!

Even if you have committed to a side – Israel's or the Palestinians' – you can and should stand back, every now and then, to look at the bigger picture.

There are reasons the West is continuously waging wars, or fuelling them. Think of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Ukraine, Gaza – all of them just in the last two decades.

One is because there is lots of money to be made from war – or there is if you belong to the ruling class. There's money in the weapons and technology that make the fighting possible; money in the resources, largely hidden from view, that are being quietly fought over; and money in persuading you and me that we must tighten our belts to support the war effort.

But there's another reason.

If we weren't at war, if a new war wasn't always dominating the headlines and our passions, making us either outraged or fearful for the future, we would have the mental space and energy to think about other things.

Such as how badly our societies are run, how the wealth gap just keeps growing, how incompetent our leaders seem, and how little is being done to solve the biggest problems facing us, like ecological collapse.

If we weren't so convinced that we are the good guys, if we weren't so eager to cheerlead another war, we might start to understand that we are all the same, that we share one planet, that our future hangs on cooperation not conflagration.

Which is precisely why we will always be at war.

Thank you O.P. What a highly new and unique take on war and capitalism. It's a wonder to me that it's not been thought of before.

Reason for forever wars is to keep populations living in fear, a fearful population are a lot easier to manipulate.best thing to do is take no notice, and if peole stopped joining the forces they wouldnt have anyone to fight there wars because they wont put themselves or there own families on the front line,

The number of wars that has been waged by humanity has actually reduced in the last century. People tend to look at history through tinted glasses. But there were more wars waged in the past for random reasons than now. One thing that got worse is that weapons have got more destructive now.

One major reason for reduction in number if wars is trade relationship. Many neighbouring countries have entered trade relationships and have become dependent on each other's economies that going to war screws up both the countries involved.

Don't you think that conscription would come into affect if people stopped joining up.

and you really think in this day and age people would take any notice of conscription to go fight in a war, only way that would happen is if we were under attack like during 2nd world war, people would say fuck off i not fighting people who havent done anything to us, heres an idea those who take us to war can fight it themselves and use there own kids to fight it insread of using everyone else

Why we will always be at war...

1. Human beings are shit

Humans are tribal with aggressive traits. Religion plays into that by encouraging division, mistrust and hatred. The 3 Abrahamic faiths bestowed on us by the Middle East (thanks!) are amongst the worst offenders.

The "West is continually waging wars" You can only possibly believe this if you a truly ignorant to all the wars outside the "west" in the last 100 years. Yes the west is responsible for starting lots of wars mostly on the pretence of being the world's police men to do good when in reality its for ulterior motives but to make out the war mongering is unique to the west is just farcical

It ia human nature to fight.

Just look at the football hooligan fights, that take place on match days. In more recent times, the protests that ended up in riots.

Is t this also the same argument for a cure to all cancers. Those & its many many of us on the surface of it would cheer & hail the genius who developed that magic pill.

Others would say “Hang on, who the fck is feeding, housing & caring for all these people that only last week wouldn’t be here?”

& a cynic might say the various cancer charities who between them have not cured one single cancer in over 100yrs might say “Fck, Best look for another goose!”.

I was with you until you got to “ecological collapse” which like Covid and the forever war has the dual aim of keeping the masses perpetually fearful and providing an opportunity for big corporations to extract money from the populace.

If you think net zero is about some sort of philanthropic purity you are kidding yourself.

Every living organism is at war.

It's called "Survival".

Whether it's a single-celled organism, like some bacteria, or a complex multi-celled organism, like humans, there is a constant fight for survival. Ergo, there will always be war, of some sort, somewhere.

Unless humans go through a process of Inner Engineering - it’s very difficult to achieve peace in this world. Too much focus is given to everything outside of body and mind - hence you feel that is what your are…we have come far from Hunter gathered days but still behave in the same manner where our animalistic behaviour is considered a predominant tool for our survival. That needs to be corrected, but our belief system do not let us get out of its clutches..we feel compelled by it and continuously chasing and imposing our beliefs. If one cannot use “Vivek” - being able to differentiate between temporary and permanent, real vs unreal - you cannot achieve the Inner peace. Inner engineering is the way forward for humanity to survive peacefully
