Trying to change from mr bland to mr dynamic.

Having said that, most things he said are sensible.

He now needs some time to implement the ideas to ensure a disastrous Labour government doesn't get in.

What would be disastrous about a Labour government?

(For the record I won't be voting for them, but I'm interested in your opinion).

General lack of policy - can only reactively bash the government (who, admittedly have been pretty useless).

Policies that do emerge are poor, alignment with the EU in the hope of getting scraps of trade (the EU will punish us for leaving anyway), opening borders by stealth etc.

No conviction or substance to them, change policy based on what they think will be popular, then change back when it isn't.

Kier Starmer.

Union paymasters.

Kier Starmer.

etc.

The only thing worse would be a Lib / Lab pact.

Well done to NotSoFunFella on making the prediction that has eventually come home to roost.

HS2 has been scrapped.

Rishi can now say goodbye to the so called 'red-wall'. Labour victory in the bag next year.

Let's see if Starmer will reinstate it.

"Rishi can now say goodbye to the so called 'red-wall'. "

Why?

Nobody I know wanted it, and we live in the North.

Scrapping it will increase votes provided firm evidence is there that the money will be spent on things that matter. Local and East-West transport upgrades for starters.

Maybe you're right, Andy Burnham doesn't agree and that guy holds a lot of weight.

Was going to put this in the HS2 thread but it closed.

Sunak’s speech...

“The biggest announcement came when the PM finally confirmed weeks of speculation that HS2’s northern leg, between Birmingham and Manchester, would be scrapped.”

So looks like FunFella was right despite the hundreds of posts dissing him and doubting him.

Just saying

Andy Burnham talks a lot, maybe he has to justify his position.

The only potentially good thing he has done is to re-regulate the buses. Although that didn't get off to the best start as IT issues and bus breakdowns made the service worse for the first couple of days.

Any idea what Labour's plan is on HS2? It would be good to know if they intend to reinstate it and cancel the new projects announced today. Or do both HS2 and the new projects (will require lots more money) or stick to the current government plan's

They said they would see it through a couple of weeks ago, but I'm going to put my neck on the block and say that was 2 weeks ago, so expect a flip flop

That's a fair point. I think political shows will be interesting in the next week or so. I would expect the question being put to Labour participants on such shows.

Maybe we'll find out when they have their party conference.

That's true enough though suspect before that they will be constantly asked.

Since no MP will deal in hypothetical issues it's a moot question

They do spend an awful lot of time talking about moot issues though.

Unless you mean that it's moot that Labour will get elected. Which I probably agree with.
