Keen to see Morley put his credentials to the test and make an economic forecast for the next 3, 6, 12 mths so we can see how well he does. "

I do both. I have a twitter account which significant followers amount where we talk economics and politics.

I expect growth for the uk for all quarters.

The only thing stopping larger growth will be unions striking. However in tbe summer they tend not to strike. So should see very good 3rd quarter growth. Usually they strike in winter so winter maybe see no growth.

0.6% growth is my target.

I also mentioned previously.inflation end of October to go down to 4%

-_orleyman

Let's see where cpi inflation is end of October. I am 2.7% out currently. Other political commentators 3.3% out

Currently the UK has hit my GDP expectstion on the button so even I am guilty of an underestimation here.

The IMF missed by at least 1%

Good to see the actual figures are better than the forecasts and predictions. Also better than the preliminary results. According to the BBC the UK is now one of the fastest to recover from covid of the G7 (previously it was claimed to be the slowest) and since 2020 has grown faster than both Germany and France (who I think are the 2 biggest economies in the EU)

Morley in all seriousness well done. Also good news all round that things are heading in the right direction. Fingers crossed the momentum can continue.

I saw the quarter growth...

“UK gross domestic product is estimated to have increased by 0.2% in Quarter 2 (Apr to Jun) 2023, unrevised.

It is now estimated to have increased by 0.3% in Quarter 1, revised up from 0.1%, whilst growth across all quarters of 2022 is unrevised.”

Was surprised there was no thread.

It was indeed fantastic news.

Puts further nails on the coffin of the 5.5% and 4% loss of gdp nonesense.

It shows uk gas policy was correct when notnto completely go green but built gas terminals to Norway and move away from Russian gas a long time ago. Hopefully forging out new trade deals will see this growth continue.

Shame we didn’t have Rough Storage (being rebuilt now though I think?)

Also a shame the licences for the North Sea oil/gas fields do not have some stipulation regarding prioritising domestic supply in times of crisis.

But they are rebuilding/recommissioning Rough aren’t they?

And wouldn’t storage mean that gas could have been bought at lower market rates and then stored rather than having to be purchased at the later prevailing higher market rates?

Not really. Look how long rough storage lasts.

I see that current recommissioned storage is 12 days. Surely that could be expanded?

The upswing in gas prices last well-over 1 year?

Hate to bring more good news but read that BAE won a 4 billion pound contract for new subs as part of the Australian deal. Decades of work and thousands more jobs created and secured.

Oh yes your right. I forgot this was the deal pinched from the French by little old U.K.
