"DVLA won't be sending reminders out any more according to news. You will either get an email or text message. Another way of screwing money out of the motorist " So no more reminders, apart from those reminders

Yes and a government department should not exclude those people and should also remember that those of us that use online services do so on an entirely voluntary basis.

Our direct debits are taken every year for each vehicle. It is perpetual until you sell the vehicle or cancel it. Can't see what the problem is, get a vehicle then set up the direct debit straight away. Problem solved. As to whether it is value for money given the state of the roads, well that's another question.

"Maybe we’re just organised. Never had a problem. Direct debit is a good way to pay. " It's very unfair that it costs more (overall) when you pay a monthly direct debit, thank if you can afford to pay it all in one go.

People say ‘lots of old people don’t use mobile phones and emails’ - is there evidence to back it up? My folks are 71 and 70, not very computer literate at all, but can still manage emails.

"Think they should bin it and put onto fuel duty. Will save a load of admin and low mileage/ fuel efficient owners will benefit. The heavier road users and gas guzzlers will pay more. " That has been an argument for years But EV now Fu*ks that up as heavy and do more damage to the roads look at the waight of a Toyota rav 4 diesel and an all electric it's about a third again.

"I renewed my Vehicle Tax 2 weeks ago, having received a paper reminder through the post." I recently received a reminder in the post about my car tax. I paid it on line. Didn't have any issues. Is it possible some people didn't receive the letter because it was lost in the post, or maybe it got caught up with junk mail and went in the recycling by mistake.

My neighbour got caught out and fined. Huge tantrum “I never got a reminder” etc. etc.. Turned out he’d not changed his address when he moved house, four years previously. See my earlier comment about not being responsible enough.

Then you don't have to rely on a letter.

"Hi, Lots of cars getting clamped around here in the last week or so better watch out. Then for some reason I jumped out of bed this morning and checked mine and realised it expired on the 1st of this month. Immediately went online and taxed the car so all good now. I've not received a reminder via the post or email ... so is this a sneaky ploy to generate more revenue ?? " Are we living in the 1930's? You mean you paid your Vehicle Excise Duty.
