I know MPs have always taken this piss but this one is new on me. A group of 12 MPs have claimed expenses for accountants fees, these accountants were employed to help with tax returns.

Surely they should be made to pay back these claims??

I think the 1 I found hardest to swallow was when mps claimed speeding fines on expenses.

"I think the 1 I found hardest to swallow was when mps claimed speeding fines on expenses."

There's plenty of (imo) nonsense claims that are allowed.

What gets me about this one is these would be accountants for 'outside work' seeing as MPs are PAYE. Why the fuck should we pay for their accountants?

Why should we pay for many of their bullshit claims?

Remember the real classics? The duck house? And Zahawi heating his stables?

The rules should be more strict on what they can claim.

I'm not sure how that could change though.

Increase MP’s salaries, but allow no expenses (which would mean their staff being put on the govt. payroll, but that’s not an insurmountable problem) and no outside work. No second jobs, no consultancy, no book deals, no appearance money.

Agreed expenses should be for parliament expenses and staff

There's no need for accountancy firms in there

I'd agree with all of that. It's just at what level we increase to.

I'd imagine their salaries mean they need to do a SA regardless of being on PAYE. Even if they did no outside work. And a few hundred quid feels like buttons if they were doing lots of stuff.

Its not a great look as I have to do this in my own time (or pay out of my own pocket) as my company doesn't cover the cost. So it's a bit cheeky to do this even if the policy allows. But then is a shed load of other things that probably get shoved through. Feels as much a failure of policy as anything.
