Via Sky News

Boris Johnson committed a "clear and unambiguous" breach of the rules on post-ministerial jobs after taking up a role as a columnist at the Daily Mail, a watchdog has ruled.

The Advisory Committee on Business Appointments, known as Acoba, revealed today that the former prime minister only asked them for advice on the position 30 minutes before the newspaper announced his new column on Twitter.

But the rules state former ministers should neither announce nor take up jobs before receiving advice from the committee for two years after leaving office.

He’s a right one that Boris ain’t he!!!

I shall have to consider taking down my Johnson shrine. He's currently ensconced in my attic, a life size model of him sitting on a golden throne. He's got a halo over his head. On the halo is written: this paragon of virtue doth never lie. He also doth follow every law & rule with the greateste of scruples. A man of godlike honesty, virtue & morals.

Phew. The watchdog that ruled Johnson breached the rules will be relieved no rules were breached. As am I. My Johnson shrine can now remain.

Perhaps I shall add some footmen kneeling before him or worshipping him.

I shall. Thank you.

Hmmm perhaps the kneeling footmen may be a bad idea, though. They may remind people of the scurrilous story about Johnson getting caught enjoying a BJ from Carrie in his office. A thing which such a titan of morals and rectitude would never have done.

Well I felt I had to build a shrine to it. It is a right honourable member, after all.

More Johnson...Channel 4 despatches

“I know of no other example where the prime minister has overruled intelligence advice.”

C4Dispatches uncovers how Boris Johnson chose to ignore security advice and make the son of an ex-Russian spy with alleged links to the Kremlin a member of the House of Lords.

Channel 4 dispatches programme very good. Boris, gives me the impression he is a loose cannon, but he likes to party.

There was a lot of serious issues raised.

I think you might be right...

There’s a very good book about the cult of Oxford university called ‘Chums’ - it talks about Johnson (and many others), lazy and entitled, using the university as a place to earn acquaintances and contacts rather than educational accomplishments.

To be fair, it is possible to do both

Oh it absolutely is - but a certain sect of the Oxford cabal appeared to think themselves above menial educational graft in favour of starting a political career through the debating society and so on (and the debating society was set up with ‘teams’ on opposite sides, shouting each other down, jeering and applauding the loudest or funniest rather than those who attempted to debate ‘properly’ - sounded familiar)

Oh yes indeed. As a slight aside, Liz Truss was very unpopular at Oxford. Few if any friends. A dweeb who just wanted to be liked. Ideal target for political grooming.
