couple, us we him her.

The promised £500 million has been cut to £250.

It seems that the government is trying to kill off the elderly and vulnerable.

Do they ever stand by their promises?

Stop spending billions on unnecessary smart motorways and ridiculous projects like HS2.

There's your money for pretty much everything that's required right there.

This is cuts to workforce support and funding.

I'm guessing that they want to force more people to become unpaid carer's for friends and family.

Unpaid and unqualified.

What have we come to were people demand payment for looking after their grandma or elderly uncle. You would of been lynched in the 70's for even thinking such a thing.

There is an argument floating around that this country has a “productivity problem.”

An answer to this problem could be for the Government to invest in childcare, the NHS and social services. In this way, parents have a financial motivation to get back to work, the sick and the infirm could get back to work sooner and people of working age would not need to spend their time caring for relatives when they could be out working and being productive.

I suspect that there are too many dots there though for this Conservative Government to follow.

Not really, the budget announced a £600 payment yo encourage people into childcare, £1200 if they signed up to a childcare agency.

This however did not go down to well one of the 6 childcare agencies had Sunak’s wife’s as a shareholder.

I know you will be happy about this fortunate turn of events

How can people look after someone if they aren't earning?

I'm lucky in that I'm retired so I can care for my father but my mother was very ill when I was still working and trying to cater for her needs, my contractual obligations and my family was well nigh impossible

They've been encouraging this for years. I've argued with professionals who've wanted me to pick my mother up from hospital when she was literally bed bound. They try and guilt trip you into taking risks with vulnerable people.

CND has calculated that replacing Trident, Britain’s nuclear weapons system, will end up costing at least £205 billion, and that’s before taking into account that Ministry of Defence projects typically go well over budget.

I agree with that.

Still this is what people want, this is what they vote for. Brutal austerity and nuclear submarines.

My 84 year old mum doesn't want paying for looking after my 88 year old dad but she would appreciate some money to pay for incontinence pants and all the extra laundry she needs to do, plus someone to give him a shower. She applied in November and is still being "assessed".

That's awful!

My parents had someone from the council social services department visit and fill out the forms for them. They quite quickly got financial help after that. This was before covid though and before people thought somehow caring was it's own reward and you magically didn't need money at all.

I do know of several people who either need care at home or residential care and who just aren't getting it because it simply isn't available.

I hope your mum gets some support soon

I don't want to teach my grandmother to suck eggs but if possible can you be there? My parents pride used to make them hide the reality of their situation.

Yes that is a good idea. The GP diagnosed my dad with dimentia in November so it is really frustrating this is taking so long. My mum is adamant she wants him at home, not in care. She just wants a bit of support.

Of course she does. I've sat in on many meetings with adult social care and heard my mum say

"We manage quite nicely"

When my father was actually on the edge of a nervous breakdown, unwashed, depressed and genuinely not coping.
