"97% are corrupt, it is just whether they hide it better from the media, so I say the same." What is this opinion based on?

"97% are corrupt, it is just whether they hide it better from the media, so I say the same. What is this opinion based on?" Original expenses scandal, quite a few MPs conducted fraud and should have been sent to prison, not a slap on the wrist. Covid contracts fro their mates, blatantly breaking Covid Rules. Looking at their 'consultancy work' which is a joke, personally an MP role is full time if they want to do a good job, there is no way they should have time to do another job or consult. The number of MPs that have family members 'working' for them in non jobs.

I agree with the the corruption with contracts. From all parties? How many? Consulting without a conflict of interest seems fine to me as long as it is declared. There are practising Doctors and lawyers who have to keep current to be able to return to their careers without retraining if they leave politics. Expertise in other careers is much the same. Family staffing is not unreasonable, if they are, indeed, really doing the job. I am just pointing out the fact that making such a sweeping generalisation probably isn't fair because the behaviour of some, often prominent, individuals is so bad.

"I disagree, to do a proper MP role there is no time for another job, even if it is a solicitor or doctor there should be no exceptions. And employing a member of family is often a conflict of interest, how many of these support jobs get properly advertised so a member of general public can apply who would probably have experience of admin, other skills compared to for example a wife. They get paid enough, a job is a job and this should be a hard job not having time to get paid £hundreds per hour to consult " Then you will not get people with these backgrounds becoming MPs. It would require them to take some unspecified period of professional uncertainty after which they may be out of their seat and unable to return to their precious careers. That seems to be asking too much of someone. I have consulted in addition to quite demanding full time jobs. It is literally providing an opinion or a sounding board for ideas. What would be more demanding, bit not impossible, is doing the hours to retain professional qualifications. If I understand correctly, 87 out of 650 employ family members (13%) of which 63% are Conservative. I wouldn't necessarily be against a bar against employing family members, but there is a convenience about the arrangement. Perhaps now anachronistic. The point is still that it is not quite as big a concern as you feel that it is when you dig into it. More a concern over specific individuals?

I agree, in general, although I would qualify that with my opinion that most opposition parties at least start off with the right intent if they do gain power. It goes south after the first failures and excuses and press spin and influence from lobbyists...

"Simple one, Do you think politicians are getting better or worse?" They will continue to get worse until they get a decent wage which will encourage educated, experienced personnel to enter politics. Why would you work for such a salary when company directors can earn ten times the salary of an MP? If we want the best, we must pay for the best. Our rich Tories are not playing politics to better the UK, they are in it for fame and fortune of a personal nature. When they get fed up, they will simply move onto another game to pass their time.
