If a politician makes a pledge, and gets voted into power of the back of that pledge, is it ok to break that pledge because the situation that existed then doesn't exist now? If yes, what's the value of a politicians promise?

I mean, if the situation no longer exists that's not something I could hold against them is it

If the situation no longer exists then they would not be able to enact their promise regardless if they wanted to or not. SKS had this come up on the LK program this morning though not all fit into the 'no longer exists' category
