Is the call from Macron to the population of France who are already cutting back on consumption of energy.

Yet France still very generously sends us power at 6pm for our unrestricted energy utopia.

We're fine, our Diverse and Robust Energy supply of "multiple inputs" will get us through!!

So you're saying that Macron is being duplicitous, telling the French people that power is short, but quietly selling it to us without them noticing.

All the more reason for us to sit back and relax. If Macron is willing to make the French populace suffer, just so that we can have more power whenever we need it, there's no reason to worry about power cuts.

I work in the power industry, pretty much at the “ coal face”. Mr fun boy is much on the mark most of the time, and rather than say negative I would say realistic. And as for panicking I would say don’t panic, do your own research and form your own opinions and if the risk of power cuts concerns you, prepare yourself.

I think the point is the glee the news is delivered with.

Are power cuts a probability this winter? I've read that they are. We are as prepared as it's possible to be but it would be handy to know

France also imports energy from several European countries. To start putting restrictions on their energy exports, could well be counterproductive in the long run.

The more that you look, it appears that energy supply is very much based on mutual cooperation.

"

Not necessarily as I'm sure others were they can, will do their upmost to support a country doing their best to reduce consumption who are in circumstances beyond their control and struggling. This will be regardless of whether they can Export, as capacity is unavailable then its unavailable.

There is absolutely no glee, nor pleasure in any post I put. I see within the data that others are oblivious to, that already a number of times in the last two weeks, supply has been stretched.

National Grid called it 'Tight". 'Super Tight' is where the issues lay and Winter is only just beginning to harden.

I was always told forewarned is forearmed, which is exactly what France is doing - what's our government doing? They were supposed to be launching the Save Energy campaign last week that Luz Truss kicked down the road - where is it?

Until some power generators leaked details to the press, many had no idea the actual situation we face and the official government line was there would be No power cuts and No rationing.

That line quickly changed when press got hold of it to possibly, but unlikely rationing. By naking some simple preparations and a government (yes, most of my posts are criticism of a goverment that cannot be straight with us) as to give pre-warning to prepare - just in case.

Do those that make comments, accused me of fear mongering and negativity actually look at the data first?

Having lived through power cuts when I was 3-4, without preparations, it was hard. The last few weeks, I've met some lovely older generation people who are preparing by having stand-by kit as "I don't want to be cold" is the main driver for having a little "insurance".

I hope it doesn't happen, but, to be prepared should it happen will damned well make it more comfortable.

We do share power, but if other countries are struggling to export, the whole concept breaks down. We had Brexit, we are independent of the EU so, why are we still so reliant on them for power and with Infrastructure at risk of sabotage?

In 2006, Tony Blair said we had to stop relying on Gas and Oil from dangerous supplier and Nuclear was the solution. Since then, not one Nuclear plant was commissioned and only for fear of EU fines, did Boris invest so much in Wind.

We have around 5.9GWh Nuclear, 22GWh Wind (only if the wind blows) and max out at 23GWh Gas production. Only Wind or Gas is capable of providing the bulk of our power - Gas generation is the issue as there is not enough production by itself and other inputs are a fraction. Wind blowing with Gas, we're fine but low Wind we're on a knife-edge.

Looking at graphs, Wind and Gas are almost one for one swap, but during high demand without Wind, Gas hits max output - and there's the issue.

We're consuming around 40-45GWh during tea time peak which is rising by around 1-2GWh per 1.5'C cooler it gets.

People should stop reading posts as negativity or fear mongering as it is not the case. Watching the data is fascinating, especially when so many suppliers claim your energy is from renewable and Green. Its simply not true and Greenwashing as most of this year, 45% of the electricity we've all consumed required the burning of Gas.

Did someone mention the Asteroid due to hit next Thursday? Oh, no one has told us - that's because Tony Blair passed a law the evening of 9/11 that government could withhold information that could cause panic.

Go read the "it's a Good day for Bad News" scandal.

Power cut scares are good for helping the utility companies to get away with gross profiteering. More difficult if they admitted to having a surplus.

And with a certain predictable regularity. It's almost like it's automated and collates cut and paste propoganda to keep us all awake.

Maybe it's the Russian electronic equivalent of the Nazi maildrops during WW2

As for the scaremongering - no, preparation- yes.

More than likely if it's planned outages - rationing, it will be announced between 24 and 4 hours before the event in selected areas.

Preparation could be simply boiling a couple of flasks, charging torches, phones etc, putting water in bottles in case water supply is affected and running central heating earlier to pre-heat the house.

Nothing scary about that really - is there?

Others could go further like run the house on battery or generator, have mobile heaters. It's up to individuals how they prepare, all I have done is tried to highlight there is likely to be supply issues. With everything else with this government, they're telling us nothing other than "every is fine".

WW2 propaganda, please - it could be argued those spreading the disinformation that everything is okay are the real Russian agents. It always boils down to the same people making the same nasty statements, same name calling both online and in real life.

We'll know soon enough. Just hope that if it does turn out correct, that you did enough to get through comfortably.

If you don't agree, is there any need to be abusive and make ridiculous insinuations?

I find MFB's post informative, down to earth and helpful.

I appreciate that *some* might read their own "tone" in to them, but we all interpret and cogitate differently.

If anything the only thing I feel he might be accused of is being exasperated, because wouldn't you be too if sometimes your advice seemed to fall on deaf ears ?

Stop encouraging me, some really don't like it!

Frustration lies with Local Government failing to comprehend the facts.

Here, there are two types, those that listen and take note, ask questions or debate. Others that without checking just enjoy blowing you down - because they are "keyboard warriors". I was one of the first on the Internet at 9,600 first with ADSL in the UK and had the fastest domestic Internet speed for 12 months twice as the exchange was across the road was on the Manchester backbone.

It was just the same back then - but hell, Swinging websites were good as not many had heard about them and mostly invite only. With the speeds of ADSL and the IP Adress of the Warrior from the mIRC server, it was Windows'98 Blue Screen Of Death for them. PING!

Press ALT and F4 for 'the secret chat room" worked a treat too.

Dogging was awesome too until the press caught a certain footballer and locations details got posted everywhere.

52 this week, at 18 discovering Swinging via backpages of LooT then dogging at 21. Getting to Swingers parties during the fuel strikes with Jerry cans. I miss those days.

Thanks

Something stinks about this .. not your statement may I add .. France have subsidised energy bills in part because the British have French owned power plants in the UK .. so we pay high so they get cheap .. now it seems we're in an even bigger viscous circle ..

Yeh, but..

The UK have also subsidised energy bills, twice over, £400 being paid monthly and a Truss's Energy Price Guarantee to ensure no household pays more than £2500.

France are actually up shit creek without a paddle to coin a phrase as 30% of their Nuclear fleet is shutdown for government instructed repairs.

Looking back over the last 6 months Interconnector data, they've been buying in almost every day, even during summer. This is something they've very rarely done as they're mostly a Net Exporter.

As soon as our Happy Hour starts, they reverse to help us through and quickly restored to Import as soon as our load drops back.

They will, and have stated that at some point they will be unable to Export for the couple of hours we need it due to their high domestic demand.

Looking at the the weather, that could be this week. This means we lose up to 4GWh, normally 3GWh 8% of our high demand tra time load at a time of day we'd like it.

No doubt they'll do their best to supply as for the rest of the day we supply them 2GWh to 3GWh they need.

This is where the system starts breaking as at European high demand, no country has surplus to pass around to support each others peak times without restrictions.

Restrictions have been in place in France since beginning of Summer to allow 15% reduction for storing of Gas. The UK was asked to support but Truss shelved it claiming at Hustings that the UK will offer no save energy advice and certainly no rationing. At a time running an air conditioner in France with the door open, attracted severe fines...

Hmm

"

one of the excuses given for the hike in gas .. is blamed on Russia turning down the Valve to Germany.. remember they used to say it would happen to us . Not true I helped build a massive Gas plant in the shetlands back in 2014 we have plenty of gas .. also before Russia and Ukraine China surprise surprise was gobbling up alot of the west LNG supply ..

I'll have to check are you sure its for repair and not scheduled maintenance

While France may well have been told to calm down the usage they have had a very low price increase this is because we subsidise .. I believe macron capped it at 4%

With the reactors in France, I believe there was a design or manufacturing fault found in one that led to others of the same design being inspected, and the same issue found.

This triggered an immediate shutdown for safety. Planned maintenance, so long as not dangerous, permission to delay would have been sought.

I'll stand corrected but that's what I've read.

France have effectively nationalised the Energy companies in order to keep them afloat while forcing the cap. They'd be bankrupt they hadn't, so government money is effectively running the companies as not-for-profit.

1946 France and EDF nationalised.. so not exactly true buddy ..

Like I have explained if you get your electricity from EDF you are helping to keep the cost of Frances Supply from EDF low ..

France launches a €9.7bn takeover bid to take full ownership of utility EDF

The French government has initiated the process to take full ownership of the state-owner power utility EDF. Indeed, the country, which intends to acquire 15.9% of the company it does not already own, notified the French Financial Markets Authority (AMF) of its public takeover bid, offering €12 per share.

The offer is expected to be launched on the market by 10 November 2022. To take the group private, the French government will spend €9.7bn, including transaction costs.
