Those in Power Deflect…

One week it’s asylum seekers, next week it’s the census figures - and the change in demographics, then it’s the race issue at Buck Palace.

Is it me or are those in power and the media deflecting away from the state of the economy and the cost of life crisis by focusing on immigration and race to deflect from the real problems in life. Divide and rule comes to mind.

It is what those in power have done since the beginning of time.

I think to be fair that the former gets reported on as it happens, and the latter have been reported on constantly for years. I think overall the news is balanced In this way. I think the media are more concerned about selling their content, and new stuff rules so of course it will be reported, but it's being done in parallel to the other stuff, not instead of.

That's not true though. Those in power will try and make people focus on anything else. The tories don't regularly announce how much the national has increased under them, or that the economies in the toilet and their handling of covid was a shambles.

Information is there to be found. But it's not presented equally.

Equally, the tories haven't commented on racial abuse in Buckingham Palace, have they? The government and the media are not the same, and not all media is big media. The fact that we are aware of these storees and information is because it's appears in some form of media. Is there anyone who doesn't know about the cost of living crisis yet?

All those things in the news happen even if it doesn't get reported on, the media has to shoulder most of the blame because without sensationalist headlines they don't get viewers.

As long as Black Friday sales & Christmas & New Years sales are up, none of them will give a shite.

Well unfortunately it’s only going to get worse now that the BBC has given the head of news role to an ex GB News journalist. It’s becoming the voice of government instead of the independent voice set out in its original charter. I have been an ardent supporter of it in lots of threads on here, but I find myself torn and feeling somewhat betrayed by this lurch to the right, which if it continues will be the end of another great institution.

The cost of living situation has been reported daily for a while now. As the world does not stand still during a cost of living crises then there are other things to report. Would you prefer other events not to be reported? Should it all be hushed up

Noam Chomsky wrote about 'manufacturing consent' which sums things up quite nicely. The media is part of the establishments that rule over us. The old feudal system never really went away, its just that the lords and barons now own big corporations and media.
