Nothing to see here? Something something Corbyn? Just your regular corruption? The tip of the iceberg?

I'm curious how this one's going to play out & be spun.

So you think paying tax is being ripped off?

For me, call me old fashion, but I expect my tax to be used to fund public services. I do not expect my tax to line the pockets of party donors, friends, family or cronies of MPs and Peers. But that’s just me

Slight correction- she embezzled £29m, not £69m I originally suggested. At least that isn't so bad now!!

Seem 'Taking Leave" to spend time with family and clear her name us actually a smoke-screen to avoid being Sanctioned- as they cannot Sanctioned unless sitting.

She last voted in April and appeared in the house 12 times since - so hardly a busy, committed Lady to our country.

Let's hope they do..

Goverment won't try to stop as they'll push her under the bus and claim they knew nothing about it.

I hope they've frozen everything ready for Proceeds of Crime recovery then go after all the others driving around in fast cars, living in big houses at the expense of the UK population.

Let's not also forget the true victims in this - the Doctors, Nurses and Care Home workers who had to downgrade PPE they used. Who were using defective PPE and having to make a single mask last a whole shift.

I know many, I was regulary sent photos of PPE boxes with expired Use By Date with new labels stuck over with new stickers with dates to make them look as though it was in date and fresh.

They should all be found, asset stripped and locked up.

If Jeremy Cunt had not run down NHS (especially pandemic) stocks in the name of saving money while at the same time, shafting Nurses with a bad pay deal while he was Health Minister.

The scrabble for PPE may not have ever happened!

It was panicking to fix a problem of their own making that led to this from the outset.

Also Tory greed led to a lot of this.

Most people when a pandemic was in the offing would look to save as many lives as poss.

It seems many Tories looked at the coming pandemic & saw a chance to get rich.

Barrowman is a shady character indeed. Allegedly he was involved in a company(s) handling payroll for freelance contractors and agency workers. They were not paying the correct tax to HMRC and the workers were getting their money via a “loan” rather than a taxable salary. Guess who HMRC went after and penalised (clue - it wasn’t the company handling the payroll)

A clue for you

. Any worker or contactor involved in such a scheme would have known that the basis of such a scheme was doubtfull. They still took a chance and you would expect HMRC to go after the beneficiaries who were the employees The company handling the payroll were doing so in accordance with their clients instructions . HMRC have done exactly what most people would expect.

So I believe that last week a woman was sentenced to 150 hours of community service for falsely claiming £19,500 in Child Benefits. On top of community service she also has to pay it all back.

This means Michelle Mone owes £28,800,000 and 216,000 hours community service. That is 108 years full time.

Wonder what will happen to her?

It is a rather foolish comparison. The person claiming child benefit knew that they were committing a fraudulent act and in essence stealing from the tax payer and ordinary working people. . The issues around Michelle Mone centre around fulfilment of contracts and disclosure which is a civil as opposed to a criminal matter. We would need to know full details of the contract undertaken by Michelle Mone and whether her company or associatea intend to pay back any of the monies earned on the contact.

The child benefit case was a straight forward fraudulent act and the person engaging in it published.

Civil / contract law is an entirely different matter. Should the government believe that the terms of the contact were breached the would seek to recover the costs of the unfulfilled parts of the contract .

During the Covid crisis we had to take all steps necessary to save lives and pay whatever the going rate was to secure PPE. The audit commission will have examined the contacts in detail. I will adhere to the normal process and assume people are innocent unto proved guilty.

You appear to want to by pass the normal process and assume that someone is guilty regardless of any evidence or facts.

"So I believe that last week a woman was sentenced to 150 hours of community service for falsely claiming £19,500 in Child Benefits.

Yes quite right. Multi millionaires shouldn't face consequences for ripping off the British public by 10s of millions of pounds. We need to concentrate on poor people dodging small amounts of tax.

Pat it is kind of funny when you try to defend the Tories but defending tax evading thieving bastards who exploited their privileged position to enrich themselves...nah!

Just remember when Hunt and Sunak bang on about the £50bn black hole in government finances, that up to £9bn of that can be attributed to the write off on substandard or undelivered PPE.

Also remember that the government insisted on setting up a VIP procurement channel that enabled Tory Ministers, MPs and Peers to recommend companies they had connections to or knowledge of that also circumvented due diligence normally undertaken by the Civil Service.

Also remember that companies coming via the VIP route were ten times more likely to secure a contract.

Also remember that many of these companies had no prior expertise or experience in the sourcing, manufacturing or supply of PPE.

Don’t forget that many of those companies were actually set up in the weeks prior to the VIP scheme being established and that many of them were registered in tax havens such as the Isle of Man.

One such company was MedPro PPE set up by a chap called Doug Barrowman. He has an interesting and chequered history. MedPro PPE secured a £200m PPE contract from which Barrowman made £65m in profit (nice margin hey) all of which was paid offshore in IoM so no tax paid.

MedPro PPE secured the contract via the VIP lane after extensive lobbying by Tory Peer Baroness Mone. She and her lawyers claimed she had no connection to MedPro PPE and would not personally benefit from the contract. Except this was not true!

Baroness Mone is married to Doug Barrowman and the Trust Fund that she and her kids benefit from (which is registered in the IoM and attracts no tax liabilities) was paid £29m from the profits received from MedPro PPE.

Baroness Mone put forward this company to the VIP lane to supply PPE equipment……FIVE DAYS BEFORE THAT COMPANY BECAME INCORPORATED!!!!

Seems like there actually always has been plenty of money, but only when it is being paid to cronies, donors, friends and family!

This is the tip of a huge iceberg. The taxpayers of the UK have been fleeced under the smokescreen of Covid and are now having to foot the bill to put the money back.

Johnson presided over the largest transfer of state assets (in this case “money”) to private hands in history.

BTW Pat your beloved Tory Govt (admittedly led by Sunak the person you called a traitor to your precious Johnson) clearly think something is wrong as they are suing Barrowman.

If you want to know more about Barrowman search google for “loan charge scandal”

Further...

Spanish prosecutors are seeking custodial sentences for seven British businessmen, including the husband of Tory peer Michelle Mone, who have been charged with fraud and tax evasion.

Barrowman’s Knox Group includes AML an umbrella company set up that pushed agency workers unknowingly into a tax avoidance scheme that HMRC later declared illegal. Of course to date HMRC have pursued the workers for the unpaid tax rather than the umbrella. This “loan charge” has resulted in nine suicides of workers pursued by HMRC.

. I think you will find that during a national crisis the number one priority of the government would be save lives. All payments made to any organisation would be fully transparent and as far as I am aware the government would not have access to the Civil Sevice procurement process . After a very successfull Covid programme we were the first country to roll out a vaccination programme .

Once we had successfully fought Covid life could return to normal. You appear to have completely overlooked the fact that all government departments are subject to various different audits and any abuse of the process would be guaranteed to come to light and be fully investigated.

This is exactly what is happening now and steps are being taken to recover any monies considered to be un authorised .

Would you prefer that people died in order that rigorous audit procedures could be adhered to and delays in obtaining supplies meant loss of life ?

Thw government took the right decision . They saved lives and are now reviewing contacts to ensure that all payment were made within the terms of the contract .

Last time I checked about 170 companies were under investigation. This may be a big disappointment to some as it simply proves that you cannot help yourself to government funds .

Maybe the question you should be asking yourself is how many people you wanted to die while we put in place a rigorous audit process . ? Personally. I would prefer to save lives and follow through with a full audit process once the crisis was under control

Your average agency worker knows nothing about tax avoidance schemes and often knows nothing about tax. That's why you join an agency. You don't seem too concerned about the suicides. Probably because you're a bot with no ability to feel emotions. One day we'll break your programming like the Terminator "I know now why you cry"

You have no idea what you are talking about. NONE!

Your blind defence of the indefensible is actually offensive. You have gone way beyond satire with that post.

Pat old boy:

1. It is against the ministerial code to personally profit from government business.

2. That also applies to members of the HoL.

3. The VIP lane for PPE procurement was ONLY made available to Conservative MPs, Ministers and Peers.

4. You were TEN times more likely to get a successful contract award if you came via the VIP lane than normal channels.

5. Despite the Crown Commercial Service developing a fast track level of scrutiny approach, this was rejected by the executive.

6. So contracts were awarded without due diligence at the demands of MPs, Ministers and Peers.

7. Legitimate British companies with extensive specialist experience and track records of producing or procuring high standard PPE were overlooked in favour of companies like PPE Medpro that had only been incorporated in the days prior to the setting up of the VIP lane (that were also registered in tax havens).

8. The Civil Service raised their significant concerns and were silenced by the Johnson led Executive.

9. Mone and Barrowman are to tip of a huge iceberg.

10. If we were at war this would be classed a war profiteering.

"I'm also curious if she'll ultimately go to jail.

I doubt she will go to jail, maybe they will blame it on one of her minions,

So you agree it's Corbyn's fault?

No, it’s the ‘boat peoples’ fault

Ugghhhh I'm getting confused. I can't remember who I'm meant to hate anymore now.

Corbyn

The EU

Lefties

Lawyers

Strikers

Climate change activists

Small boat people

Immigrants

Harry & Meghan

The RNLI

Poor people

Tofu eaters

"Pat it is kind of funny when you try to defend the Tories but defending tax evading thieving bastards who exploited their privileged position to enrich themselves...nah!

Thieving crooked bastards!.

Most people would have a preference for saving lives during a crisis as opposed to a rigorous adherence to administration and audit procedures . The government did what any rational individual would do and tackled the procurement of ppe head on. Ww should congratulate them on doing this any saving lives . Boris did not process PPE payments it was Civil Servants and all payments would have to be documented ant processed.

Any company taking unlawfull advantage of the process would find themselves under investigation after the problems of procuring PPE were resolved. They is why there are currently 170 cases under review .

It looks to me like the government tackled both issues head on . They concentrated on saving lives are are subsequently investigating any firms that took advantage of the situation. How many people would you want to die while we put in place rigorous audit procedures for procuring ppe . ?

Yes dead right, any rational person would use the pandemic to get their pals fast track PPE contracts, and party hard breaking the law while British people died alone in hospital beds.

You'd have to be an irrational moron to put the needs of British people at the top of your agenda.

Are you being deliberately obtuse? Simply repeating what you have already said does not make it so!

I will quote myself...

“5. Despite the Crown Commercial Service developing a fast track level of scrutiny approach, this was rejected by the executive.”

It was absolute negligence at best and corruption at worst to not undertake even the most basic of checks on companies winning contracts worth hundreds of millions (PPE Medpro was over £200m). A clear warning sign being a company only set up FIVE DAYS BEFORE AND REGISTERED IN THE ISLE OF MAN. Jesus Pat you really cannot defend this.

The Govt could have saved lives AND saved money with even the most simple of checks. Hundreds of Civil Servants were available to work on this. Concerns were raised but ignored.

Another example... Matt Hancock’s pub landlord best mate was awarded a £20m+ contract to provide test tubes! Based on what experience? Corruption!

It looks like you have failed to take into account a more accurate measure of deaths which is excess deaths. The UK are not top of the list for these , other countries had high rates per 1000. Covid Fraud is an entirely different concept to the procurement of ppe . Where the government can identify those involved in Covid fraud they are pursuing those involved. . Boris did not party during the crisis. He was too busy saving the country and leading an award winning vaccination programme .

We had the highest number of deaths in Europe , we lost at least £3.4 billion to fraud , Boris partied whilst people died It looks like you have failed to take into account a more accurate measure of deaths which is excess deaths. The UK are not top of the list for these , other countries had high rates per 1000. Covid Fraud is an entirely different concept to the procurement of ppe . Where the government can identify those involved in Covid fraud they are pursuing those involved. . Boris did not party during the crisis. "Pat it is kind of funny when you try to defend the Tories but defending tax evading thieving bastards who exploited their privileged position to enrich themselves...nah!

Thieving crooked bastards!.

Starting that argument again I see.

As explained to you before death rate which is internationally used is a much better way of counting.

However if your are insisting on highest deaths in Europe I think you will find that Russia and not the UK is top of that list.

Bit of detailing going on here. The focus of the thread is the corruption and greed enabled (possibly even encouraged) by the Johnson led Conservative Government.

Some people/person are trying to justify or defend it. Call me old fashioned but I’d kind of like my Govt to have emergency protocols in place to deal with a statistically inevitable pandemic that would avoid loopholes that provide opportunities to corruptly exploit the system for personal gain. Oh that’s right the Tories and then Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt chose to ignore all the recommendations from Operation Cygnus in 2016!

. Maybe he had valid reasons for ignoring such a report. Lots of decisions have to be made in life where risks and awards have to be evaluated . It looks like other countries did the same. Other countries in Europe had higher excess deaths than the UK. You are suggesting what the government should have done with the benefit of hindsight which is a bit meaningless .

As far as I am aware no country in the world predicted Covid 19. We are no different to any other Country apart from the fact that we had an award winning vaccination programme. By taking prompt action the government saved many lives .

And by putting patients from hospitals where Covid was rife directly into care homes without testing for Covid first this government signed a death warrant on many frail people so don’t tell me that joined up thinking was anywhere in the government’s response to Operation Cygnus. They did what lots of politicians and corporate managers do in this country which is take a chance despite all the best evidence suggesting that people would die unnecessarily. The focus as ever is on short term back scratching, corruption and greed all backed up by the right wing rags and tv channels who feed useful idiots the exceptional patriotic nonsense you seem to believe in

Love the “maybe” to frame as a question you clearly do not know the answer to! He didn’t have valid reasons to ignore the recommendations. This has been widely discussed and reported so no need for me to rehearse it again.

Also that is the second time you have said “award winning vaccine programme”. I may have missed it but what “award” has been awarded?

. Slightly bizarre than someone can claim to make the right decision after the event . The more probable result is that after a detailed analysis it was concluded that the risks / costs out weighed the benefits . I cannot remember many people discussing vaccination programmes prior to 2020 .

Just remind you the benefits of the awrd winning programme are scheduled below - a great achievement for the government and all concerned . No one can fault the success of the government on this . It was a stunning achievement

The programme roll-out benefited from strong leadership at all levels. The central operation built ‘a team of teams’. Few public programmes have involved so many interlocking parts where, if any one of them failed, the whole programme would have slowed and could even have stalled. As well as the NHS centrally, directors of public health played a major role, despite having been overlooked by central government on other key aspects of the response (such as Test and Trace). Alongside them, many NHS managers and hospital staff, GPs and general practice staff, and pharmacists all seized the opportunity to work together effectively and to innovate. Private sector companies also played their part, putting aside their competitive instincts to help make the roll-out work, delivering early on in relation to IT and logistics in particular.

The mantra that the programme should be both simple and fair was crucial throughout – making it as easy as possible for people to get vaccinated, while working hard to reach those least in touch with health care services and who were least trusting both of government and of the vaccine.

Interviewees highlighted that it is not enough for the NHS to offer a universal service, it also has to offer equal access, taking services to places and people who have least contact with those services.

Finally, perhaps the key lesson from the vaccination programme is that the factors that made the roll-out a success can be applied to many other parts of the NHS’s service. High quality use of data, and particularly mapping data, to establish where take up is high or low, close working, very locally, between the NHS and local government and the voluntary sector to take services to places that the NHS would not normally reach, with that helping build trust in the services that the NHS does provide. That can be applied not just to other vaccine programmes such as childhood immunisations, but to screening for cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and other conditions

That can be applied not just to other vaccine programmes such as childhood immunisations, but to screening for cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and other conditions"

What is the source of that info? And what was the “award”? From which body/organisation was the award given? Who else was competing for the award? Etc!

Nobody is claiming the vaccination programme was not a success! Even a crap and corrupt govt must be able to get some things right! But one success does not abdicate them of responsibility and accountability for the many other mistakes and activity that smacks of utter corruption.

Back to Operation Cygnus. You have tried to shift the goalposts to talk about vaccination programmes. That was not the core of the findings and recommendations. Nothing to do with hindsight. There was widespread criticism at the time and inaction of even the most basic of protocols, let alone things like ensuring adequate supplies and a robust supply chain for PPE (as just one example), had a severe negative impact leading to the actual topic of this thread.

You can keep pulling it towards the vaccination programme and we can keep pulling it back. Feel free to start a thread specifically on thst topic!

"Bit of detailing going on here.

Oh that’s right the Tories and then Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt chose to ignore all the recommendations from Operation Cygnus in 2016!.

Love the “maybe” to frame as a question you clearly do not know the answer to! He didn’t have valid reasons to ignore the recommendations. This has been widely discussed and reported so no need for me to rehearse it again.

Also that is the second time you have said “award winning vaccine programme”. I may have missed it but what “award” has been awarded?. Slightly bizarre than someone can claim to make the right decision after the event . So here’s a simple question then….given that the Tory government decided not to act on any of the recommendations of Operation Cygnus, would it have made a difference to how the pandemic played out if it had? I am wondering if there would there have been billions squandered on sub-standard PPE, fraudulent contracts to supply the same , fraudulent business loans, etc etc and is this just mismanagement by this inept government or is it actually corruption in the name of greed?

Ok, I'll concede he wasn't sacked. He was forced to resign because his government resigned en-masse. Because he was a lying sack of shit who's lying had reached levels they were no longer prepared to defend.

. Maybe you need to pay a little attention to what is happening in the world. From mememoy Liz Truss made a resignation speech at 14 30 . Resigning is hardly sacking. A very sad occasion for someone with great potential. Sadly we were unable to put her policies into action and reap the benefits of them.

that’s better Pat. Keep focused on the hilarious satire like this and steer clear of, you know, actually defending corruption.

BTW - you clearly do not understand how politics in this country works. Name me one modern era Prime Minister who was actually sacked/fired? They all “resign” but pretty much always because they were left no choice and were forced that may be due to a scandal or loss of support from party MPs and Ministers (in Johnson’s case both and multiple).

Truss and Kwartang further destroyed the UK economy. In just days they did more damage then even Johnson could manage in months! Their policies were utter unfunded nonsense and the markets agreed. You backed a total LOSER there Pat and disappeared from the forums to lick your wounds for a couple of months.

Good to see you back. We all need a laugh!

Only the Monarch can "sack" a Prime Minister.

Thos was last done in 1834, when William IV removed Lord Melbourne, and appointed Sir Robert Peel as PM.

No modern PM has yet refused to leave, after a vote of no-confidence.

Sadly her policies were never given a chance to come to fruition. Reality is probably comparing which policies an individual supports against the electorate in general. If you can find instances where I have not supported the last three prime ministers I am more than happy to apologise . It sound s a little boring but I have simply supported what the majority of the electorate think . Maybe I am mistaken and the Conservatives did not win the last three elections. ? Boris Johnson stormed home with an 80 seat majority. That is a reflection of reality and what the electorate think .

Do you really think that the party with the most effective PR machine is the best, regardless of what they do?

"And despite of all that we have the highest number of deaths in Europe, the worst performing economy in the G7 , and Boris was sacked for being a sack of shit

I have to take issue with your final point. He wasn't sacked for being a sack of shit - it was for being a lying sack of shit. Accuracy is important. It looks like you might need to turn in your television or read a newspaper to see what is actually happening in the world . Last time I checked he actually resigned and the resignation speech was recorded and broadcast. Sacking did not even enter the equation. .

Can you read, or maybe listen to what Boris said? He wanted to stay as PM but was sacked by his own party for being a lying bag of shite , fact

And less than 6 moths later Thick Lizzie was sacked for being a thick incompetent bag of shite, . Maybe you need to pay a little attention to what is happening in the world. From mememoy Liz Truss made a resignation speech at 14 30 . Resigning is hardly sacking. A very sad occasion for someone with great potential. Sadly we were unable to put her policies into action and reap the benefits of them.

There were no economic benefits of her disastrous tenure, the markets knew that, the BOE knew that, the IMF knew that and her fellow MPs knew that so she resigned when told by Graham Brady your finished..

You are utterly out of touch with reality pat, which at least shows consistency given every one of your other profiles exhibits the same..

The ‘majority’ of the electorate didn’t vote for Boris. Even though he had an 80 seat majority in 2019 3 years later He was sacked for being a lying bag of shite

Tower Bridge South

It's an old saying but it's just like playing chess with a pigeon. Whatever facts are presented he just kicks all the pieces over, shits on the board and struts around like he won anyway.

His delusion is occasionally funny but generally he's little more than a flat-earther.

Forced to resign is what politicians call resign but is really being sacked. Like I said, Truss probably can’t spell resign. Wonder if she can spell “pork markets”?

No one is more effective at ripping the piss out of people who vote for the Tories than you. Utterly ruthless.

The Good Law Project:

“Last year the Government falsely claimed it was 'completely false' that there was a VIP procedure to win some of the £37bn test and trace contracts. We revealed that, in fact, it was completely true!”

Of course nothing to see here!
