"Am I the only one that thinks there's more to come here ie a nuclear strike?" Its a typical military maneuver come winter time. Consolidate and keep. Narrow supply lines also , there seems to be a miscpnception. They haven't pull out completely. Only the west bank kf the river. Typically in wars little action takes place in winter. They've blown up most entry routes across the river and the east bank is higher and more fortified. Nothing out the ordinary really. Think Ukraine full counter offensive likely won't happen until back end of Feb now

"Am I the only one that thinks there's more to come here ie a nuclear strike?" Nope. I also believe any general with a hard military doctrine would also prepare a complete shitstom in Kherson for their enemy. It's too good an opportunity to pass up, and it has the potential to wipe out a lot of pursuing forces. We'd do the same. It also has the opportunity to protect a retreated flank and bog down the enemy. I can think of dozens of reasons why a retreating army would want to make a city on their rearguard a complete nightmare, and very few why they wouldn't. I expect they've been told to level it without using tactical nukes due to fall out repercussions and provoking Nato countries in to the conflict. However blowing Kakhovka dam upstream would cause quite a lot of trouble downstream for pursuing forces and yet limits the damage to within conventional warfare status. Still a war crime, but the RF don't seem to care at this point anymore.

"Am I the only one that thinks there's more to come here ie a nuclear strike?" What makes you think this, how would a nuclear strike be a positive move for Putin? He is not a military strategist, but he is politically aware.

He was quoted recently as having spoken to macron and commented that historically a nuclear strike on a minor city to end a war is acceptable and cited Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Added to that, he's losing badly

"Am I the only one that thinks there's more to come here ie a nuclear strike?" I doubt they will nuke as their own forces are far to close, just across the river. I would guess they will use conventional weapons to target the city

"Putin will probably just blow up the dam a few miles upstream. Blame it on an accident, or the Ukranians. He has already installed the explosives according to some reports." That would seem unlikely as the ground where the Russians have retreated to is lower than the city and is in direct line of any flood water.

"That would seem unlikely as the ground where the Russians have retreated to is lower than the city and is in direct line of any flood water." That's a very good point ! I just checked the topology and the East Bank is approx. 5-18m above sea level. The West bank has few areas to flood and it ranges up to 45m+ ASL. Hmm, and it's a serious height advantage for UKR artillery as well. I also notice the Dnipro is over 1km wide in some places too. A lot wider than I thought !

"Think we are under estimating the strength of Ukrainian military and their support. Okehampton, Dartmoor is today full of Ukrainian soldiers being trained on forward air control (grad and himars) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nq300eUoQfg" That makes perfect sense to train the Ukrainians where the Russia's can't bomb them.

" I also think you have to look at what's happened in the American midterms and the message the Republican leadership was sending to Russia as regards cutting back military aid to Ukraine. So the biggest looser here was the Russian leadership, they must be so demoralised that there was no red wave in the U.S. Lets hope it has also diminished their resolve and shorten the war. So the biggest winner in the U.S. midterms was in-fact Ukraine.

"To quote Churchill and refer it to Ukraine."Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning." The Ukrainians have fought bravely and competently, using weapons and training from the UK, USA and Nato against a far bigger opponent. We all have benefitted from this if we see the end of the Russian Putin dictatorship, so we should stay the course. Don't forget, it may be costing money but much is being spent in our countries. The Ukraine will be a huge addition to NATO in the future and may well join the EU. " The worry about Putin the villain is that there are people behind him who made him what he is and the next one might just be worse

"I doubt they will nuke as their own forces are far to close, just across the river. I would guess they will use conventional weapons to target the city" No they won't because the Ukrainians have already secured Oleshky which is just to the east of Kherson but on the south side of the Dnipro river. If your enemy is on the run its best to keep them on the run.
