US Midterms - epic fail for Biden?

It's US mid terms in a week, and the Democrats are sounding increasingly desperate.

It looks like their far left economic and cultural agenda has badly backfired.

Not even the attack on Pelosi's husband (apparently late at night by a younger man wearing only underpants) will save them.

Biden isn't fit to be President. The only reason Putin invaded Ukraine is because he knew that the US has a weak and feeble "leader". There is no way the war in Ukraine would have happened with Trump as President.

Hopefully Biden and Harris will get the message and swiftly announce that they won't be seeking re-election.

You really believe that don’t you?

So Russian interference in US elections = nothing!

Trump being kompromat by the Russians = nothing!

Trump was a Russian stooge. It’s as clear as his orange skin!

Two different things going on next week… the house and the senate

So let’s deal with them separately…

The house….. quick question to begin with…

The last president who’s party did not lose seats in a midterm was????….

George HW bush……

Why am I saying this? Because the democrats only have a 9 seat majority in the house! Because of redistricting by republican states legislators after the 2020 census means more seats should be majority republican….

It won’t be a red wave… it will be more a red trickle!

40-50 seat majority would be a wave, I expect the republicans to have a majority of roughly 15 to 20

And then the senate…. It’s 50/50 at the moment, and this is where the republicans should gain the majority but with the trump endorsed candidates they are fielding in a lot of states, they probably have messed this us!!

The democrats should have had the mother of fights in Georgia and Arizona.. but the republicans have got it badly wrong with the candidate choice!

Other seats the democrats are fighting to hold, Nevada and New Hampshire

Republicans are desperately trying to hold onto Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio and North Carolina

Florida is probably just outside of the democrats hands … interesting thing is that trump is having a rally in Miami for Rubio… and has not invited desantis!!!

I think democrats win in Pennsylvania… the senate will go 51/49 democrats

The irony being if you ask the republicans what their economic policies are… the answer you will get is……. Errrrrrrrrr!

Does anyone know what trumps economic plan was before??… other than giving his business and his friends a tax cut!

Remember when the republicans were so against the affordable care act… and everyone was asking “okay…. So what are you going to replace it with?” And the answer from republicans was always…. We will tell you in a couple of months time!

And then when the republicans had the chance to repeal because they had control of all 3 parts of legislature.. and people asked “so what are you going to replace it with? “ and they were saying “we will tell you in a few months!” Right up until McCain stopped it… because even he said they needed a plan!!!

It’s easy being the opposition… it’s going to be easy for them to continue making the argument because nothing will get done with split legislative houses!

You are still talking about the Democrats of twenty years ago. Today Biden is in hock to the far left. In fact it isn't clear who is running the US as Biden certainly isn't.

He has become the Comical Ali of our times, no better than the days of Brezhnev and Andropov in the USSR when aides had to hold them up and the Russian media pretended everything was fine.

It's a tragedy for him personally but unfortunately also for the entire West as America's weakness has emboldened Russia and China.

Sounding a bit desperate banging on about what happened years ago. We are talking about now.

Either way Biden and Harris are finished. Not that Biden will probably notice as he has spent so much time during his Presidency at his holiday home the switch to retirement will probably be quite seamless.

Biden isn't a good president, for sure.

Calling a centre right party and president "far left" just indicates the perspective from where you presumably sit on the political spectrum.

You really don’t want to go down that road… be careful! we can get the figures for the amount of days the former president played golf during his administration… spoiler… it was a lot!!!!!

So back to your I’ll thought out response…..

So back to you banging on about what you call way back past history!

Let me answer you like this… quick question…can you give me just one concrete position that the national Republican Party has?

Just one…. Name any!!!

To save you from yourself let me give you the answer……

They don’t have any….. not one national position!

And how do we know this? Because at both the 2016 and 2020 republican national conventions… they actually scrapped the committee that forms their agenda (it’s the presidential nominee that gets to decide the policy platform… and these are then voted on by the committees and by the state delegates on the convention floor!)

Let just say the “last guy” was kinda winging it there!!!

So if you are calling nov 2022 years ago… I suggest that you actually know of what you speak, rather than copy and paste something (without any acknowledgment by the way) to try and make yourself look smart “buck”

Either way Biden and Harris are finished. Not that Biden will probably notice as he has spent so much time during his Presidency at his holiday home the switch to retirement will probably be quite seamless.

So if you are calling nov 2022 years ago… I suggest that you actually know of what you speak, rather than copy and paste something (without any acknowledgment by the way) to try and make yourself look smart “buck” Yet a lot of the population still loves his presidency. Not this one why is that ?

Are you talking about Trump again ?? You more obsessed than anyone on here with the T word why is that? Show me on a anatomically correct doll that he violated you. You need a hug. "

Well…. It is kinda still topical as the federal courts are making most of the former guys inner circle appear in front of the Georgia grand jury with regards to election tampering… you know.. the find me the 11780 votes telephone call thing

I see SCOTUS are going to even make Lindsey Graham appear at the grand jury…

I do think this is where he will get charged first….

54…. Which 4 are the republicans picking up? The whackos they are putting up in Georgia and Arizona mean they are unlikely to win those…

Looking at the map the only others the democrats are really within double digits defending would be Nevada and New Hampshire… Nevada might be close, but again the republicans put up a whacko in New Hampshire…. Other than that you are looking at Oregon and Washington and you are not winning those!

Other than that.. it’s republicans doing the defending…. Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, North Carolina… even Montana and utah from the independent republican mcmullan

If it had been fetterman against a moderate Republican I think the democratics would be in trouble… but again it’s poor candidate choice in dr oz. Zero political experience basically helicoptered in from jersey at the behest of the former guy with some very questionable views on abortion and not very good answers on other issues!

You keep saying president when you mean for senate!… actually at this point I would on the proviso that if it’s took much he steps down, and if that happens you can have another contest in 24 to see out the red of his term

I ask would you vote for fetterman for president hypothetically? I wouldn't he does not have the cognitive skills to perform what is asked since his stroke.

You keep saying president when you mean for senate!… actually at this point I would on the proviso that if it’s took much he steps down, and if that happens you can have another contest in 24 to see out the red of his term "

is he representing my state ? He is a representative who can't do that effectively.

"Sounding a bit desperate banging on about what happened years ago. We are talking about now.

Either way Biden and Harris are finished. Not that Biden will probably notice as he has spent so much time during his Presidency at his holiday home the switch to retirement will probably be quite seamless.

Latest polling suggests Republicans are on for 54 seats in the Senate. I hope you haven't bet your house on a Democrat victory....

Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, North Carolina… even Montana and utah from the independent republican mcmullan did you watch the fetterman debate with oz ? Would you want fetterman as president? Empathy can only go so far.

If it had been fetterman against a moderate Republican I think the democratics would be in trouble… but again it’s poor candidate choice in dr oz. Zero political experience basically helicoptered in from jersey at the behest of the former guy with some very questionable views on abortion and not very good answers on other issues! I ask would you vote for fetterman for president hypothetically? I wouldn't he does not have the cognitive skills to perform what is asked since his stroke.

He is a representative who can't do that effectively. "

my husband and I have friends that have trucking companies. That being said according to federal laws if you have a stroke you can't drive. But yet you can have a senate seat according to the idiots.

I wonder how many women who would normally vote Republican will get to the polling station and think 'Do I really want to have to travel to Mexico or Canada if I need an Abortion'.

It’s certain things you can take for Granted that they will call radical leftist issues…

I still think now they have come after abortion rights, that at least 1 states will come after LGBT issues and gay marriage… and that case will again come up before SCOTUS

There are southern states where for example the closest place where you could legally get an abortion is Illinois…

The way I described it to my uk friends is to imagine that if you needed for whatever reason an abortion, instead of your local town, the closest place to do it is Rome! Then you know how bad it is…

Especially when there are some states where they give no exceptions whatsoever… in cases of sexual assault, health of the mother… none!

"It's US mid terms in a week, and the Democrats are sounding increasingly desperate.

Hopefully Biden and Harris will get the message and swiftly announce that they won't be seeking re-election."

Putin planned the invation of Ukraine when Trump was president. He thought, with his help, that Trump would be re-elected and would not support Ukraine like Biden has.

The reasons?

1. Trumps organisation has $-billions of debt with Deutche bank which is backed by Russians so he cannot attack them.

2. Trump demonstrated his love for dictators when he was president. He wants to make the USA into Russia mk2 and be their president for life.

3. Far left??? If the democratic party stood in the UK they would be well to the right of the conservatives. Don't believe Fox news!

Well the continuing assault on american democracy continues, but obviously the lies that are generally peddled by the republicans and their pacs go unanswered.

I thought the conservatives were full of shit in the UK, but they have absolutely nothing on the horse shit that comes out of a republican mouth.

Lies about Bail Reform, Lies about an election they lost. All half truths about their opponents wrapped in bows. Bad research, biased polling to support some proper crap.

Gerrymandering District lines, they are right devious fuckers.

I've seen some real shitty stuff, but they take the piss.

Well it doesn't really matter, the house looks like it will go to the republicans, so will the senate, and for the next two years none of the badly needed reforms which will improve Americans lives, are going to be wrapped up in investigations into Hunter Biden, and other lies about the election.

America, land of the free, and home of the Whopper.

You won't you just a mouthpiece trying to pretend you are special. Weird. Let's play this game. . We let the majority vote . What is the sexual Fab undertone writing in a pic everyone wants to agree to. You game ? it's a democratic opinion. I prove my worth you prove yours. You know a democratic decision. I call .. step up or shut up. Otherwise in my eyes you just a lame ass troll looking for validation name your duel. The same avatars for the past year telling everyone how we should understand them. LMFAO. Change up or shut up. What are you hiding I am a open book. nothing ? I thought so. Nothing but keyboard warriors looking for validation. "

There it is.

By no means I am upset, but the Psychodrama that is America has been going on for over 200 years.

I don’t need to respond immediately, its called life, and causing a “scene” isn’t going to change the fact, that the USA will become a broken democracy after these mid terms. It cannot hold its leaders accountable for their abuse of power . It’s “freedom of speech” is now freedom to lie about everything. All men are created equal? No more like all men are created to be the oppressor and the oppressed.

If you really stood back and objectively looked at the state of America now, it’s not all sunshine and lollipops.

It’s a state controlled by interests which are more interested in maintaining their bottom line than the welfare of its own citizens.

You think having republicans controlling two out of the three branches is going to provide some miracle recovery. All it’s going to do is turn the USA into a failed state.

Take for instance water management, even third world countries have a better water supply than some of the citizens in the USA.

Also where in the world would you have a Republican representative of Utah asking for people to pray for rains because the river is dry.

The chronic underfunding of projects to improve infrastructure have been ignored, expecting market forces to change the matter, when all it has done is to widen the gap between the rich and the poor substantially.

But I guess, putting your fingers in your ears and saying La, La pretending nothing is wrong, except everything is wrong.

Good to see that you are still trying to be positive about that Blue Wave.

Sounds like even Pelosi is getting ready to accept the results. Not sure about Hillary.

You are talking about the house… I am talking about the senate

In the house the dems only have a 8 seat majority.. and with all the redistricing and gerrymandering that has been going on in republican states the house was Always likely to go republican… the question is the size of the republican majority… good night..40-50…. Bad night…less than 20!

Well the Wall Street Journal is certainly reporting this morning that the GOP is favoured to win the Senate as well, though less certain. The Democrats seem to have got the focus of their campaigning wrong and increasingly minority voters seem to be drifting away from the Democrats.

The Dems remind me of UK Labour. They just seem to be coasting on the basis that they are not the other team. Relying on that strategy alone may cost.

"It's US mid terms in a week, and the Democrats are sounding increasingly desperate.

Red wave

That red wave isn’t that the toxic algae which is on American shores recently? Yes according to some and it's heading to DC.

On holiday? , what is trump up to these days? not paying attention to trump. Different election coming up apparently you cant differentiate the difference.

The OP mentions and praises Trump, have you finally ditched him?"

In theory…. Yes…. In practice, not a chance with the night the republicans are having

Someone earlier said it best… the democrats have a Florida problem, the republicans have a trump problem!

Since the war, the party in charge has lost an average of 43 house seats in the 1st midterm election after ……

They won’t do it…. Pennsylvania last night gives you an example as to why…. In the exit ratings they asked the favourable rating for both Biden and trump

Bidens number was -8.. 46/54… not great

Trumps number was -24! 38/62

You put trump in as speaker…. You give dems a “pelosi” type figure to shoot at for the next 2 years in the run up to the general!

Right… what left outstanding at the moment

Dems flipped Pennsylvania! Which means 3 of the 4 outstanding to get control of the senate

Arizona… looks like the dems will win this

Nevada.. republicans leads slightly, but what is left to add is all in Las Vegas (heavily Democratic) and mail in (heavily Democratic)…. Dem likely to pull this off!

Wisconsin… Republican leads slightly.. but again, most of the outstanding votes to count are in Milwaukee (heavily Democratic) and mail in (heavily Democratic) this republicans may hold but it’s going to be super close!

Georgia… democrats lead… but the winner has to get to 50% to avoid a run off election! He is on 49.2% may not quite be enough Atlanta suburb votes left to get to 50…

Run off would be on December 6th…

Looks like it is a 51-49 Dem senate

In the house…… the republicans look like they may still win the house… but the majority may be single digits!! ATM the Dem majority is 8… it looks like this may be republicans by 8!

So for all of the normal 40-50 seat falls in the first midterm… this would mean the republicans basically had a net flip of 8!!!!

And ladies and gents… that is your red trickle!!!!

Not at all, I have no direct interests in the US elections, aside from a detached concern and interest.

Being serious for a minute, I think the outcome could be a good thing for the US in the medium term. Much as I admire Trump it is probably in the Republicans' interests for him to step aside. And the same for Biden/Pelosi and the Democrats. There is too much history there and both "sides" could probably do with younger and more dynamic looking candidates who can have a fresh debate about the way forward, rather than focusing on differences and extremes. The Republicans probably need to exorcise Trump, and the Dems their geriatric leadership and the Woke Left. I suspect that will be easier for the Republicans to do if they can find anyone to talk Trump down. He still looks pretty fit though, compared to Biden.

Do the democrats really need to get rid of all non-racists "woke-left"?

They have a choice between a shitty self serving right wing party and a different shitty self serving more right wing party. Changing the figurehead at the top won't do anything. Look at Obama, sounded great, said all the right things, excellent at public speaking, got bogged down in the system and didn't really achieve much, meanwhile continued to serve the US military industry over the American people.

Desantis is about as far away from centrist as you can get!!!

I honestly believe Biden only runs again if trump does… the democrats have the centrists in the party, the republicans basically exorcised them!

I read about him, seems like a standard republican.

Against women having choices over their own bodies.

Denies that science exists so that oil companies can make greater and greater profits.

Opposes educating under privileged kids.

Wants Americans to shoot eachother as much as possible without any restrictions.

Hates the LGBTQ community.

Blames foreigners for everything.

Pretty standard stuff. Nothing jumps out as unusual.

"It's US mid terms in a week, and the Democrats are sounding increasingly desperate.

Hopefully Biden and Harris will get the message and swiftly announce that they won't be seeking re-election."

Was this an "epic fail" for Biden?

Does this result leave them sounding "increasingly desperate"?

Has the democrat "economic and cultural agenda has badly backfired"?

Why haven't Republican politicians shown any sympathy to a man being attached with a hammer in his own home?

Why would Putin have been 'afraid" of Trump when he was withholding weapons from Ukraine for personal political gain?

It would seem that it has, so far, been a historically good midterm election. How do you explain that?

Was there a "red wave"?

How do you explain what the Democratic party has bucked the historical trend of mid-term reversals for the incumbent?

President = democrat

Senate = democrat (even if the republicans were to win the Georgia runoff and make it 50-50, vice president gets the casting vote on all decisions!…. P.s now that the runoff is more a local race than a national one, that favours the democrats more.. and they likely win it to make it 51-49 democrats!)

House = technically we still don’t know yet!! It looks like it’s going to be republican, but the majority may in the single digits or low teens….

You asked about the house… this is where it tricky!

To get a majority you need 218 seats in the house… at the moment you have 211 for the republicans, 204 for the democrats… and 20 uncalled contests atm

Now the current projection says republicans 219, democrats 216 but the projection still holds a swing +\- of 4 either way… so for example at highest they think the republicans will get is 223 in which case the democrats would have 212 and the republicans would have a majority of 11…...OR the other way the lowest number they think the republicans would get is 215, the democrats would have 220… in which case the democrats would remarkably hold onto the house with a majority of 5!

And breathe……….

Now…. Of the 20 uncalled races so far they are split 10/10 as to which party leads presently… but some of the races are in places where democrats do strongly (most of these seats are in places like California, Oregon and Colorado)

To think It is this close is brilliant for the democrats… if you have a republican majority of just 3 or 5… they are basically a hostage to everyone in terms of policy…

The problem for the Republican Party is that if you say 35-40% are full on trumpists…. Then if more than one other person joins the race they could split the vote and he gets nominated again…

If it’s one on one then it’s interesting.. because I don’t see the party agreeing on one anti trump candidate

It’s only 50/50 if the republicans win Georgia… and Warnock will beat Herschel walker .. so it will be 51/49 dems…

So they can afford to lose manchin or sinema on some votes and still get stuff through… so he has some power, but not as much as he did

If you call a swing of a whole 12 seats your red wave… have at your pitiful display!!

Obama lost 50 in his first midterm

Even Trump lost 45 in his first midterms

Let me try and put this in terms that even you might understand buck… if the tories had a 3mp majority in the House of Commons, would you call that workable? We know the answer is no because even before the last election here the tories had a 30 seat majority and couldn’t it work because there were too many at the extremes that can hold you hostage…. And that is what is happening with the republicans because the freedom caucus are going to fling the party further to the right

I don't see how that's possible.

You can only hold those views if you are angry and need someone to blame other than yourself (in a wider sense of group as well as individual).

Being insulting seemed inherent. It didn't just happen under stress. It was unprovoked.
