So Elon Musk has bought the social media platform.

Seems like he's said a lot of stuff, for example reversing Trump's ban, firing staff. But then again, what Musk says, is not always the same as what he does.

I don't use Twitter, because it seems like a cesspool of anger and hate. Is it going to get better, worse, or die off like MySpace?

I doubt it will change , I have been on Twitter for 5 year, never sent a tweet , liked a couple of comments though and would agree 90 % is just nonsense, how ever, it can provide some absolute comedy gold .

Twitter will just become like the real world, there will be people with different opinions in there. Frankly without Trump Twitter is nothing.

To now it's just been a repository of people the woke California groupthinkers approve of. Slowly these Big Tech monopolies are falling out of favour with the masses and their results are starting to tank accordingly.

Hopefully Musk will start a shake up of the whole sector.

More like the real world?

Last time I looked it was mostly far right people hounding anyone the perceived as "woke" (as if that's a bad thing) off the site.

8 out of the last 10 years Twitter has made a loss. Presumably Musk must think he can do something worthwhile with it.

I don't use Twitter to follow "celeb" self promotion or political views, or people for that matter.

It is very useful for things that are time critical, such as a waiting times through airport security. I flew a lot when we had all the delays, people were great at tweeting how long they had been waiting and demanding something be done about it right now! Others gloating it only took them a 20 mins. That info was great, it gave me realtime info allowing me to understand when I needed to be at the airport.

It's a dangerous place we are entering now. Where the insanely wealthy can now buy the companies and institutions when they don't like something.

Years ago it was a broad of another company with some kind of sanity behind it, now individuals have the power to change and control the world when they throw enough money at it.

Thats a different debate from it being nothing without Trump. Trump had less followers than Barrack Obama, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift among others when his account was suspended.

I doubt that timing was deliberate. There was a lot of back and forth wrangling that dragged things out. At 1 point, it looked like Musk wanted to pull out of buying twitter completely.

Hubby recently created a Twitter account to follow anime artists. The political arguments and posturing is toxic and very off putting though. But that's easy to avoid if you don't search or post on those sort of things.

Yes the fake accounts were troublesome.Just waiting to see if there is going to be a huge influx of people rejoining.

With the debates going on and Twitter being finalized hopefully people will rejoin.

I follow an eclectic bunch of accounts on either side of the political spectrum along with sports and gaming.

It’s a veritable cess pit with awful moderation already. It’s getting interesting already as people think they now have carte Blanche to post whatever ludicrous statement they want.
