"Sorry to have posted this on a lot of threads but it is astounding... Suella Braverman was the shortest-serving Home Secretary for 188 years. Kwasi Kwarteng was the shortest-serving Chancellor for 52 years. Liz Truss can beat that. If she goes before Christmas she'll be the shortest-serving UK Prime Minister ever." Just another regular day for this lot...

I suspect there will be others trying to join the shortest serving club before Liz finally goes

"And now the Chief Whip resigns.. change of Conservative leader coming…. " Think it might be over today's farce of a 3 line whip and threats of expulsion over the fracking vote.. Which apparently was a vote of confidence in Truss's government but then a minister binned that aspect.. It's a bit shambolic..

It looks are if at the last minute they said it wasn’t a confidence vote… thus undermining the entire whips office all day Because it wasn’t a confidence issue.. the snp abstained because it’s an England issue… But the DUP still voted with the government…. And now there are allegations of bullying in the voting lobbies… and some very senior politicians pointing fingers at various people It’s all a shambles…

"Confidence vote cancelled due to lack of confidence that she wouldn't lose it " She wanted them to vote on an issue for which the scientific advice to her predecessor allowed him to bin.. And for which every Tory MP in Lancashire have publicly opposed.. And which is pie in the sky.. Clueless

"Seems even Truss abstained as well Remove the whip!" Apparently rumour is that after all the shouting going on outside the voting lobbies she basically sacked the chief whip on the spot.. and in doing this missed the vote!! When someone gets round to writing the book on truss 60 days in charge.. this fracking vote chapter is going to be epic!! ![]()

"£65bn Bank of England intervention to steady markets They didn't spend £65bn, they spent £19.3bn (and of course got £19.3bn of assets in return)." Which in theory they will either get back all that money in 30 years time… or they will sell off the assets at a reduced price Either way the intervention is a loss of some sort for the UK taxpayers
Reply privately | Reply in forum | Reply +quote |
" Either way the intervention is a loss of some sort for the UK taxpayers " Bank of England has not paid for the bonds in cash, it has created the money with a guarantee from the Treasury, which means that every pound is covered by the taxpayer. Govt have made the taxpayer pay for their incompetence.
