After a lovely quiet weekend in the Lakes..

Good while it lasted:

Jeremy Hunt says a Treasury-led review will take place into how people are helped with energy bills from April next year.

The objective is to design a new approach to save taxpayers money while targeting support to those most in need, he says.

Business support will also go to those most affected and will incentivise energy efficiency.

OH DEAR!!

Prices were forecast to increase to £6,600 in April. Summer OK, but next Winter?

Mr Hunt, who only stepped into the job on Friday, said the government's energy price guarantee will only be universal until April - not for two years as originally planned.

After April, the scheme will be more targeted following a review into how to support people's energy bills from that time, he said.

That is how it should have been setup in the first place. I can make do without support, and millions of others can too. Give that money to those that can't and it will provide a longer term solution for those that need it most.

This is not rocket science.

However, a lot of people just outside the scope for help will suffer tremendously given the looks of this

Then add 6% mortgage rates to the equation, there isn't many left who be able to stand on their own feet.

1.7 million coming off fixed rate mortgages. Only ones to benefit are Landlords!!

Windfall Tax was the logical way to go.

I may be wrong, but this looks suspiciously like the labour proposal.

No doubt when SKS mentions it, he will be called Captain Hindsight.

If we can have adults in charge, rather than puerile name calling children, I'll be absolutely delighted.

It's probably why Labour won't say what they would do. Any good idea will hijacked by Tories.

Ask any Tory supporters and they say, but Labour won't say what they will do.

Well, here's something they said they would do. Next thing the government uterus on their policy and adapts what Labour pushing for.

I've never seen this government peddle backwards so hard. It shows that they are utterly incompetent, and furthermore they have left everyone to foot the bill because of that incompetence.

And many people still want to vote for them? what is wrong with them?

Does it really matter who come up with ideas trough ? Or do labour actually want the country to fail at all costs ? Because that’s what it sounds like

It should not matter who is in opposition is supposed to be their to call out the government not sit there gleefully waiting in the wings hiding any good ideas.

my OP was making the point labour do show their hand. They then get told it's not costed or doesn't go far enough (or both)

The Tories then u turn, adopt the labour plans (see windfall tax and energy cap) and yet still say labour have no ideas and just whinge.

I think most replying got the gist.
