Why? Surely it must have been money well spent

Maybe because otherwise people would have thought brexit was a failure ?

Was?

Should have called it something less toxic, like festival of puss leaking sores..

Oddly enough both are the gift that keeps giving ..

In fairness, wasting 120 mil on a festival of ignorance is a tiny drop in the ocean of public money lost and wasted on Brexit.

This event was never officially known as "Festival Of Brexit".

JRM referred to it as that once, but organisers were keen not to politicise the event.

Wasn't it the working title of the festival, until they realised that it was only going to further divide British people.

Pretty sure that's what the Mail/Telegraph/Express etc were calling it too.

I'm any case, it was shit timing for a national festival.

It was a shit idea without any good reason for its existence and JRM killed it dead by calling it the “festival of brexit”

It was originally called Festival of Great Britain and Northern Island, then renamed Festival*22 before becoming Unboxed

Did he ever find a Brexit benefit when he was minister of Brexit Opportunities?

In other Brexit news...

Today, at the IFS, Chief Economist of Citibank, Benjamin Nabarro, nailed it - Brexit has been a disaster. "The UK is an economic laggard...the only economy not to have recovered its pre-pandemic level...total UK trade remains 25-30% off its pre-Brexit trend."

So much winning!

. He has simply made a statement without providing any supporting evidence which is completely meaningless. I prefer to base an assessment of facts , not opinions. It looks like he is a bit hehind the times and unable to adopt to changing circumstances. Since Brexit we have had Covid and now a war. Maybe he needs to wake up to changing events.

Yeah pat a bloke who is the Chief economist at one of the world's biggest banks wouldn't need to bother with adapting to changing circumstances and behind the times..

Maybe with your own economic expertise and obvious experience of global finance you should send in your CV..

Get the fish out of here..

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you our next Chancellor (and Chief Economist for every organisation) Mr Hay!

BTW, it is unanimously accepted that it is BECAUSE of Brexit that the UK economic recovery from the pandemic is THE worst in the G7. THE WORST ECONOMIC RECOVERY BECAUSE OF BREXIT.

In fairness, one of the main aims of brexit was to crash the economy, so a few individuals could make a huge wedge by shorting the pound. IE Somerset Investment.

So to brexit has been a disaster, is subjective. For the people who funded it, it's largely achieved their aims. Fucking over British people and the UK is inconsequential to them.

Sure, it's a fucking disaster for the rest of us. But we all knew that.
