From the land of haribos.

Today, sweden goes to the polls to elect a new parliament in what is expected to be a close fought race between the ruling left wing bloc and the right wing opposition to form the next government.

On the left bloc we have:

Center party

Green party

Social democrats

Left part

On the right bloc we have:

Liberals

Moderates

Christian democrats

Sweden democrats

Some facts:

Parliament has 349 seats

Opinion polls show a close race coalitions still uncertain

In 2018 parliament split 175-174 seats in favour of the left

What does the polls say?

It is said that it might be a photo finish.

Left, center 175 seats

Right, center right 174 seats

Where on the right side the swedish democrats have the biggest lead of 75 and on the left side the social democrats with 102.

What is your prediction of what bloc will win? I reckon that it will be the left again this year.

I don't know much about Sweden. I did own a few Volvo's years ago but found that the quality was declining. And I went to see the Abba thing in London a couple of months back, which was very good.

The Telegraph this morning had an article about the elections, the thrust of it being that Sweden is undergoing a gang related crime wave being driven by immigration (Sweden's murder rate is now worse than England's), and this may favour the parties of the Right who are more likely to crack down on it.

Yes it is and malmo is compared to chicago, the most dangerous city. I dont think that the social democrats, the left blocs policies have been good, so yes, it will be a nail biting election this time.

Yes, the UK isn't the only country that has a media blaming foreigners for everything.

Let's hope Swedish people see through the hate and fear based propaganda and vote in their own interests.

Do they give hard evidence that the increase in gang crime is due to immigration? I realise it may indeed be the case but without hard evidence it could be seen as scare mongering.

And also so far with the seats, the right bloc is in the lead with 176 and the left bloc with just 173, it is a close race there

Yes, that was then, a sharp rise in gun violence and gang crime has become a leading issue in the election, even the bbc is saying that.

I think you will find its a bit more than "hate and fear based propaganda" unless of course you can explain the reasons for the high percentage increase in gun crime and killings apart from all the other things?. By no means do I believe immigration is the sole cause of the issue in Sweden but it undeniably is a factor in the current situation in the country.

Just saying, it's never "them nasty foreigners over there". The problems are always more complex.

Voting based on fear and hate has lead us directly to the likes of Bolsonaro, Brexit, Trump etc. It's hardly what the world needs right now.

Nothing to do with ‘hate & fear’, all to do with a huge immigration error. Sweden welcomed thousands of displaced Albanians after the Balkan war. Surprise surprise, they weren’t doctors, nurses, engineers, architects, they didn’t bring much needed skills. They did bring knives, guns, bombs, thuggery! Now we welcome them off dinghies as they claim to be victims of trafficking. What a soft dopey lot we are.

I have wondered if people crossing the channel have been told how to answer questions that will qualify them for asylum, would it be part of the service the people smugglers offer, along with telling them to ditch their documentation and phones?

The Telegraph this morning had an article about the elections, the thrust of it being that Sweden is undergoing a gang related crime wave being driven by immigration (Sweden's murder rate is now worse than England's), and this may favour the parties of the Right who are more likely to crack down on it.

Yes, the UK isn't the only country that has a media blaming foreigners for everything.

Let's hope Swedish people see through the hate and fear based propaganda and vote in their own interests.

Over 70% are genuine refugees who are granted asylum

Total guff. Stop pedalling nonsense. 70% of what? Where do you get this from - the Guardian?

These are facts, educate yourself

I have wondered if people crossing the channel have been told how to answer questions that will qualify them for asylum, would it be part of the service the people smugglers offer, along with telling them to ditch their documentation and phones?

Surely it would have a baring on the actual numbers of genuine asylum seekers and those who aren't.

"

Yes they do, it is actually a very complex system the social democrats have and also another one they do is to import voters, we call them "valbudskap" in sweden.

It’s a total scam. They know exactly what to say. Once they get their feet under the table they bring the family over. They then even go back for holidays.

It is what I said it was, me considering the situation.

Migrants are paying a considerable amount of money to cross the channel, I was thinking do they supply training on how to answer and deal with border control, once here as part of the package.

Yes, immigrants , especially those arriving by boat , are being demonised and blamed for problems in this country, it is a right wing propaganda tactic to create irrational fear and divert attention away from the failings of the government

Yes it's very similar, the far right parties are pushing the anti-immigration propaganda to stoke fear and hate. It's an excellent way to win votes. See the Conservatives, Brexit, Trump, Bolsonaro, Berlusconi etc.

Stoking fear & hate is a tried and tested way of getting people to vote against their own interests. I can see why Sweden's right wing parties are doing it. Looks like it's working too.

Sad times for Sweden and Swedish people.

Have the Swedes had a full and fair election?

If so, then they have made their democratic decision.

Should be questioning that decision or process. I see no reason t9.

Yes, we have had a fair election, where they have presented us all with the current issues that sweden are facing, so yes, the people have made informed choices based on that

"I don't know much about Sweden.

Yes, the UK isn't the only country that has a media blaming foreigners for everything.

Let's hope Swedish people see through the hate and fear based propaganda and vote in their own interests.

Is this a guess or based on facts?

It is what I said it was, me considering the situation.

Migrants are paying a considerable amount of money to cross the channel, I was thinking do they supply training on how to answer and deal with border control, once here as part of the package.

Could you see that happening or not?

It could definitely happen, unfortunately there will be people from all walks of life that try and ‘scam’ the system, look at the £3.4 billion the country lost through COVID loan fraud .

Anyway, back to the topic. How Sweden regrets that decision. Should every Albanian that rocks up here with no good reason be sent straight back?

The topic is about the Swedish election not about a small minority of Albanians arriving in the UK

I have been having a read up on the situation in Sweden and it is starting to reflect other countries such as France and Italy.

Do you think that migrant / immigration issues are creating a situation that is pushing people to vote for the right, or even far right?

Yes, immigrants , especially those arriving by boat , are being demonised and blamed for problems in this country, it is a right wing propaganda tactic to create irrational fear and divert attention away from the failings of the government "

Complete nonsense. Nobody is ‘demonising’ anyone.

"I don't know much about Sweden.

Yes, the UK isn't the only country that has a media blaming foreigners for everything.

Let's hope Swedish people see through the hate and fear based propaganda and vote in their own interests.

It’s a total scam. They know exactly what to say. Once they get their feet under the table they bring the family over. They then even go back for holidays.

What a bunch of wankers we are.

Who is ‘we’ ? At least 70% are genuine refugees, I hope this helps allay your irrational fears

‘We’ are UK citizens. Law abiding ones that care for the future of the country. I don’t have any irrational fears. Other that the huge meteorite that is hurtling towards us right now.

I am a law abiding UK citizen who cares about the future of the country and think that immigration (on the whole) is beneficial and we have far bigger problems to worry about

I’m not anti immigration by the way, I would question how some people only view it as beneficial though.

So you don’t care that any mad bad or dangerous foreigner that chooses to make his way here is welcomed ?

Over 70 % are granted asylum, their are ‘mad and bad’ in all walks of life, ‘on the whole’ it’s beneficial, Agreed. How is it beneficial?

They tend to do essential but low paid jobs that the natives don’t want, they enhance our culture through music, sports, art, fashion, food, TV & film etc etc, what have you ever ‘done’ for your country ??

Bit of a cliche answer on sports, tv, film, music, culture etc.

I’ve worked and paid taxes for best part of fifty years. Never caused the Police any bother. On the very rare occasion I have encountered them I’ve been polite and helped, unlike some sectors of the community that didn’t seem to get that memo.

So you have done and contributed nothing

Thanks. A life wasted then. "

Don’t be to harsh on yourself, you still have time to be ‘beneficial ‘ to your country

If you have worked and paid taxes for nearly 50 years I would say you have contributed a great deal and that's just in financial terms. "It's not looking good for Sweden right now.I would disagree, it depends from what angle you see it from

The non fear and hate based politics angle. No, that is what the mainstream media wants you to believe.

I think you'll find the mainstream media is all about pushing people further to the right through fear and hate.

Mainstream media like Sky, the BBC, the Guardian, all renowned for their right wing bias."

BBC, Guardian right wing bias ?

Thank you. I have four children and very proud of them indeed.

Also been fortunate enough to travel much of the world. Not the tourist trail as it was mainly for work. I have met many lovely people from all walks of life and formed life long friendships.

I like to think I’ve always been a good ambassador for the UK and the good that we represent.

Most people are of course ‘great’ and get along perfectly well, they (we?) certainly don’t need paid WOKE or diversity advocates to tell us how to behave.

Good luck to Sweden, the vote was very very close , it looks like the country is split down the middle, which will make it very hard for the new coalition to succeed
