Given the appalling state of Political behaviour in this land at the moment, is it time for Proportional Representation instead of FPTP?

Here is an idea how about not voting for the political class and not being governed by useless parasitic men and women.

It would be great, but the Tories aren't going to do anything than endangers their grip on power.

They have never have power only office and they have to be voted in, if nobody voted there would still be government run for the people and not for the self serving political class.

my big worry about PR is that you end up with doggy coalitions where a minority party has a lot of power with a very small voter base , the greens have done this in Germany & left the country very dependent on imported gas

Yet the system enables them to retain office no matter what they do.

The party is funded by billionaires and corporations.

They serve the needs of the billionaires and corporations.

The billionaires and corporations keep them in power.

No one in that chain is going to allow any change that will impact their status quo.

Do doggy coalitions really mutter though? They could have policies that blow the woof of parliament. And they are less susceptible to outright control and we don’t want the tail wagging the dog do we?

People need to realise what personal responsibility is and not give it away to a man or woman who will just put you into debt or bomb some innocents in a far of land or closer to home while the passive aggressive's eat popcorn.

If voting made an actual difference then it would be banned.

Compulsory Voting, ala Australia and yes, PR as well.

The only thing worse that voting, is actually not voting at all.

Because a non-vote favours the party with the majority.

It may not have been a vote which they would have received from you, but neither is it a vote for a party which opposes them either.

It's a stalemate in favour of the party with the majority. A wasted vote.

If I was a authoritarian leader in a dystopian future, I would positively love the no-voters. They offer no threat, and in most cases indirectly support my regime through their apathy.

Fellow over there who is so disenfranchised with politics you cannot see the point in voting ? Good, that's helpful to me who is in power, and as you didn't vote for the party who oppose me, it's a win-win for me. Thank you.

In your system would PR also be forced from the top down into devolved governments?

I am in favour of PR for the house of commons. We also need to look at moving parliament to a more modern building.I am also coming around to the idea of compulsory voting as suggested by the gentleman above me

The only way to change things for people to escape the needless consumerism and debt circle. That keeps the rich ,rich and the poor, poor.
