Edwina Currie blasts Martin Lewis for saying cost-of-living crisis is a 'catastrophe'.

A former Tory MP has clashed with Martin Lewis over the cost-of-living crisis after the consumer champion warned of the dire effects rising bills will have on households.

Edwina Currie, who served in Margaret Thatcher's government, said Mr Lewis should stop using words like "catastrophe," suggesting he should instead give practical advice on how people can mitigate the impact of rising bills.

The consumer champion had previously warned soaring energy bills are turning into a "national crisis" on the scale of the pandemic and will put lives at risk, accusing the government of not taking radical enough action to help.

In a heated exchange of words on Twitter, Ms Currie said he should "stop pretending that governments can do everything".

Lol he IS giving practical advice.

I recall listening to Ms Currie some years ago as she toured a very poor area, she commented that everyone was very cheerful and eating chapati and curry...so that was alright

"good job they weren't eating eggs"

I remember when people wanted her head on a plate over the salmonella gaff and they got it, all she did was tell the truth about the risk with undated eggs

Yes, she did tell the truth. That is not what politics is about, she had to go

The egg industry did have issues and wasn't sorted out on the "hush" the industry wanted, was in many ways right.

This post was about defending 16 years of government failures to get us off fossil fuels, mainly Gas, leaving millions exposed to high bills, potential shortages and many 1000 dead in the next 5 years.

Then for Boris to stand up last week to slam previous government failures to invest when the party he represents did little too.

He sanctioned a few Windmills, that hardly solves the catastrophe we now face.

Reminds me of an epic joke. What's grey and smells of curry? John Major's penis.
